Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Parker, Imorde win at No. 1 doubles; No. 33 W&L topped by D1 Furman

LEXINGTON, Va. – In their second match of the spring playing against Division I competition, the No. 33 Washington and Lee men's tennis team fell by a 7-0 final against Furman on Thursday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Despite not scoring any team points, junior Heys Parker and first-year Henry Imorde picked up a win at No. 1 doubles to highlight the day for the Generals (3-6). They downed Alex Han and Finn Pollard by a 6-4 score.
  • The Paladins (4-8) won on courts 3 then 2 to open the match to claim the doubles point. Junior Sanjheev Rao and sophomore Ryan Good paired at No. 2 but were edged, 6-4, by Landon Ecarma and Theophile Joly in a close match.
  • Furman proceeded to take all six singles matches, but the Generals made the Paladins work for the singles sweep. Rao forced a third-set tiebreak before falling 6-1, 6-7 (5), 1-0 (4) against Barnabas Sift, while sophomore Sahil Arora nearly took a set off Han at No. 5, 4-6, 6-7 (4).
  • Joly (1), Nicolas Dispas (2), Walker Allen (3) and Ecarma (4) all won in straight-sets for the Paladins. Parker, and first-years Justin Ilie, Todd Cannaliato and Pearce Lane rounded out the singles lineup, respectively.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Imorde and Parker paired for the first time this season after Imorde missed the Generals' previous spring matches. Imorde had previously teamed with Rao at No. 1 in the fall, with Parker and Ilie lining up together in six prior matches this spring.
UP NEXT:
The Generals will have an eight-day layoff from match play before they return next Saturday, March 14, to host No. 20 Mary Washington at 1:00 p.m.
