Bhatt takes 10th, No. 11 Women's Golf places sixth at Jekyll

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – First-year Toral Bhatt posted a 10th-place finish at the Jekyll Island Invitational to help the No. 11 Washington and Lee women's golf team to a sixth-place showing at the 24-team event.
 
COURSE STATS:

  • Total Average Score: 81.26 (360 rounds)
  • Round 2 Average Score: 81.64 (120 rounds)
TEAM & INDIVIDUAL LEADERS THRU ROUND 3:
  • No. 3 NYU captured the team title with a three-day score of 34-over (305-296-297—898), which included a tournament-best 9-over on Sunday. No. 1 Emory came in second at 38-over (295-306-301—902), while No. 2 Carnegie Mellon (301-299-309—909) and No. 4 Pomona-Pitzer (308-297-304—909) tied for third.
  • The Generals' sixth-place showing came on a 54-hole score of 924. They shot a 22-over 310 on Sunday, sixth best for the day, and finished 17 strokes up on No. 10 Redlands for seventh.
  • Emory's Amanda Zheng took home the individual title for the tournament, finishing the weekend at even-par (68-76-72—216). Cecilia Jia (CMU), Alisa Ching (CMS) and Zimo Li (EU) all tied for second place at 6-over par, with Jiayi Fu (NYU) and Inha Jun (NYU) tied for fifth (+7, 223).
W&L ROUND 3 PLAYER SUMMARIES:
  • Bhatt secured her 10th-place finish for the tournament with a 5-over 77 on Sunday, which included one birdie and eight pars on her final 11 holes. Bhatt's three-day score was 12-over par (76-75-77—228).
  • Sophomore Berkeley Bundy moved up the individual leaderboard once again on Sunday, matching Bhatt's 5-over 77. Bundy came in 23rd for the tournament at 16-over with one birdie on her card on Sunday.
  • Senior Julia Haetzel moved four spots up the leaderboard to finish in 29th after a 6-over 78 on Sunday. She was 2-over on the front nine, sank three birdies and had a final score of 18-over par for the tournament.
  • First-years Bella Scucchi and Mackenzie Cline finished tied for 36th at 20-over par. Scucchi recorded a 6-over 78 on Sunday, Cline was 8-over, and both players carded an eagle on the par-5 eighth hole.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • The Generals finished the tournament third in par-4 scoring (4.27) and were just two total strokes behind Pomona-Pitzer. W&L was also sixth in par-5 scoring (5.33).
  • Thanks to Cline's and Scucchi's eagles on Sunday, the Generals recorded the most eagles on the weekend with three. Bhatt had the other in round one on the par-5 15th hole.
  • W&L carded 29 birdies on the weekend, which was seventh most in the field, and they tied for the fifth-most pars (138).
  • Bhatt and Haetzel finished the Jekyll Invitational among the leaders in par-4 scoring average. Bhatt tied for second (4.10) and Haetzel tied for eighth (4.20).
  • Bhatt also finished in the Top 10 for birdies (9), while Bundy recorded the second-most pars (37) on the weekend.
UP NEXT:
The Generals have one final tournament on the schedule ahead of the ODAC Championships in late April. They will play 36 holes on the opening day of the Stith Invitational next Monday, March 30.
