JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – A trio of players ended day one of the Jekyll Island Invitational tied for 14th place to put the No. 11 Washington and Lee women's golf team in fifth place out of 24 teams on Friday.

TEAM & INDIVIDUAL LEADERS THRU ROUND 1:
- No. 1 Emory and No. 2 Carnegie Mellon occupy the top two spots, respectively, on the team leaderboard. The Eagles shot a 7-over 295, with the Tartans six shots back. No. 6 Amherst is in third, one shot behind CMU, and No. 3 NYU is in fourth place at 17-over (305).
- The Generals sit in fifth place through the first 18 holes of their first 54-hole tournament of the season. The Blue and White trail NYU by one shot.
- Three players shot par or better on Friday, led by Emory's Amanda Zheng at 4-under (68). Sonia Hao of NYU is second after a 2-under 70, while Mekhala Costello is at even-par in third place.
W&L ROUND 1 PLAYER SUMMARIES:
- First-year Bella Scucchi, senior Julia Haetzel and first-year Toral Bhatt paced the Generals with a 4-over 76 each. Scucchi totaled three birdies, was 2-over on the front and back nines, and finished her round with five straight pars.
- Haetzel was the W&L leader in pars at 12, and she was 1-over on the back nine with one birdie. Bhatt finished up at 4-over for the day, highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 15th hole. Bhatt shot a 1-under 36 on the back nine.
- First-year Mackenzie Cline rounded out the team scorers for the first round with a 6-over 78. Cline made par on each of her first five holes before rounding out her day with a team-high four birdies on her card.
- Sophomore Berkeley Bundy capped off the W&L lineup at 8-over (80) in round one. Bundy tied Haetzel for the most pars on the team (12), while Bundy was 3-over on the front nine.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- The Generals currently own the second-best par-4 scoring average through 18 holes of play at 4.28. W&L tied for sixth-most birdies (10) and had the fifth-most pars (48) on Friday.
- Haetzel averaged an even-par 4.00 on the 10 par-4 holes. That average was tied for the best in the field with four other players.
- Bhatt's eagle on the par-5 15th hole put her at 2-under par for the day across all par-5 holes. That mark tied for fifth and was just one shot behind the leaders.
- Cline's four birdies on Friday tied for third-most in the opening round, while Haetzel's and Bundy's 12 pars each tied for third most.
