INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The fourth-ranked Washington and Lee University women's basketball team is set to host the First and Second Rounds of the 2026 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) announced on Monday afternoon.
The Generals (28-0) drew a first-round match up against St. Mary's College of Maryland (23-5), while Christopher Newport University (23-4) and Gettysburg College (21-6) will square off in the other first-round match up to complete the four-team pod in Lexington.
W&L earned the Old Dominion Athletic Conference's (ODAC) automatic qualifier following a 67-56 win over Randolph-Macon College on Sunday afternoon, hoisting their third conference crown in the last four seasons. The Seahawks of St. Mary's earned the United East automatic bid after a 73-47 win over Penn State-Abington to secure their first NCAA appearance since 1999.
Christopher Newport is making its 26th appearance in the NCAA Tournament after earning its seventh consecutive Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference championship with a 73-57 win over Salisbury. Gettysburg won its fifth-straight Centennial Conference title with a 68-59 win over No. 3 Johns Hopkins University to earn an automatic bid into the big dance.
The Bullets and Captains will face off in game one of the weekend at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, March 6 followed by the Generals and Seahawks at 8 p.m. The two winning teams will then meet the following night at 8 p.m. with a trip to the Round of 16 on the line.
