Women's Track and Field Secures Second-Straight Indoor ODAC Championship

SALEM ,Va. - The Washington and Lee University women's track and field team won their second-straight Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Indoor Championships following a two-day performance which featured six individual champions and 37 top-eight finishes.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MEET
  • The Blue and White hoisted their second-straight and third overall indoor track and field title after scoring 195.5 points across 16 events, out scoring runners-up Lynchburg (113) by 82.5 points. Bridgewater finished in third with 92 points followed by Roanoke in fourth with 88. Shenandoah rounded out the top five with 45 points.
  • A pair of records fell on the final day of the championships as Jesma Evans and Mad McMurphy took down the meet records in the 400m and pole vault, respectively. Evans claimed her second-straight ODAC title in the 400m, resetting her own program and meet record with a time of 57.00s which ranks 18th in Division III. McMurphy set a meet record in the pole vault after clearing a height of 3.63m (11'-10.75"), securing her first ODAC title of her career.
  • Joining McMurphy in the pole vault was Layla Keadle, Abby Cholewa and Gabby Pullen all who finished in second, third and fourth, respectively. Keadle earned silver after clearing a height of 3.43m (11'-03.00") with Cholewa earning bronze with a mark of 3.13m (10'-03.25"). 
  • The Blue and White had four student-athletes score in the shot put this afternoon with Leah Smith garnering a third place finish to earn All-ODAC honors. Smith recorded a personal best mark of 11.96m (39'-03.00") to earn bronze at her first conference meet. Emily Jackson followed in fifth place after registering a toss of 11.58m (38'-00.00") with Bailey Hedgemon and Kate Wood following in sixth and seventh place with marks of 11.51m (37'-09.25") and 11.48m (37'-08.00").
  • Mackenzie Morante scored three points for the Generals in the triple jump after turning in a sixth place finish with a mark of 10.53m (34'-06.75"). Jesma Evans was the lone scorer in the 200m this evening, clocking in a time 26.15s, the fourth-best time in program history, to finish in sixth place. Lilly Versen was the lone General in the 60m dash finals, turning in a second place finish with a season best time of 7.86s to earn silver.
  • Olivia Warr, Amelia Weenig and Reese Brown went 1-2-3 in the mile for the Generals to secure a sweep. Warr won the event with a personal best time of 5:07.63, the eighth-fastest time in program history, while Weenig posted a personal best time of 5:12.81 to finish in second place. Brown rounded out the trio with a third place finish, crossing the finish line in 5:14.48. The Generals had two other scorers in the event as Mary Gorsky finished in sixth with a time of 5:23.83 and Julie Anne Bush finished in eighth with a time of 5:25.10.
  • The Generals had three student-athletes competing in the 60m hurdles finals this afternoon with Lucy Buchmayr pacing the trio with a fourth place finish with a personal best time of 9.27s, the fifth-fastest time in program history. Joanne Lee and Elizabeth Sawicki finished back-to-back in sixth and seventh place with times of 9.43s and 9.55s, respectively.
  • Sofia Petrucelli and Charlotte Gardner turned in top eight finishes for W&L in the 800m. Petrucelli clocked in a time of 2:25.50 to finish in fifth place while Charlotte Gardner crossed the finish line in 2:25.84 to finish in eighth place.
  • Warr picked up her second individual title of the day in the 3,000m as she crossed the finish time in a time of 10:10.51, securing her second-straight crown in the 3k. Adelaide Eliis joined her on the podium with a third place finsh, clocking in a time of 10:30.85 while Amelia Weening finished in fifth with a time of 10:42.45. Reese Brown, Eve Spencer and Audrey Robinson finished in sixth, seventh and eighth place as they crossed the finish line in times of 10:43.06, 10:45.45 and 10:48.17 to all score points for the Blue and White.
  • Ana Hodneland, Annabelle Sutliff, Simmons Lee and Jesma Evans capped off the championship in the 4x400m relay, finishing in second place with a time of 4:04.74 which is the third-fastest time in program history.
