SALEM ,Va. - The Washington and Lee University women's track and field team leads after the first day of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships after securing two wins and nine top-eight finishers while
Bailey Hedgemon reset her own program record and posted a top mark in Division III this season in the weight throw.
HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MEET
- The Generals are the leader after the first day of action with 50.5 points after winning a pair of events while securing nine top-eight finishers on Saturday. Lynchburg follows the Generals in second with 49 points while Bridgewater sits in third with 35 points Virginia Wesleyan (18) and Roanoke (17) round out the top five in fourth and fifth, respectively.
- Hedgemon highlighted the first day of action as she secured her second-straight ODAC Championship in the weight throw after resetting her own program record with a mark of 17.35m (56'-11.25") which ranks 12th in Division III. Bella Timmerding joined Hedgemon in the weight throw, finishing in 7th place to earn points for the team with a personal best mark of 14.53m (47'-08.00"), the third-best mark in program history.
- Camille Gillum secured her third conference crown in the high jump after clearing a height of 1.65m (5'-05.00") to earn First Team All-ODAC honors. Simone Kasischke cleared a height of 1.51m (4'-11.50") to finish in fourth place in the event.
- The Generals had four student-athletes finish in the top-eight in the 5,000m, highlighted by a second place finish by Adelaide Ellis. Ellis clocked in a personal best time of 18:14.25 to earn Second Team All-ODAC honors for the first time in her young career. Eve Spencer followed in fourth place after crossing the finish line in a personal best time of 18:54.63 while Sarah Clark clocked in a personal best time of 18:56.47 to finish in fifth place. Brianna Breyault rounded out the quartet with an eighth place finish after posting a personal best time of 19:08.56.
- Charlotte Gardner, Kaia Beddows, Kate Odell and Audrey Robinson teamed up in the distance medley relay to cap off the first day of action. The squad earned Third Team All-ODAC honors after clocking in a time of 13:03.89 to finish in third place.
- Lucy Buchmayr (9.40s), Joanne Lee (9.41s) and Elizabeth Sawicki (9.61s) all posted qualifying times in their heats of the 60m hurdles and will race tomorrow at 3:20 p.m. Lilly Versen posted the fifth-fastest time in the 60m dash prelims with a season-best time of 7.95s to qualify for tomorrow's finals at 4:20 p.m.
