Four Generals Post First Place Finishes at the Rockingham Collegiate Classic

PENN LAIRD, Va. - The Washington and Lee University women's track and field team rounded out the regular season with four first place finishers at the Rockingham Collegiate Classic on Friday.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MEET
  • The Blue and White had four student-athletes finish in the top six in the 60m hurdles, with Piper Shannon leading the charge with a first-place finish and a time of 9.18s. Lucy Buchmayr finished in third place after clocking a personal-best time of 9.31s, the fifth-fastest time in program history. Joanne Lee and Elizabeth Sawicki finished back-to-back in fifth and sixth place after crossing the finish line in times of 9.40s and 9.42s, respectively. J. Lee's time of 9.40s is the eighth-fastest time in program history.
  • Olivia Warr turned in a pair of top finishes, placing first in the 3,000m and second in the mile. Warr posted a time of 10:35.81 in the 3k to claim gold while earning silver in the mile with a time of 5:09.15, which is the ninth-fastest time in program history. Julie Anne Bush posted a personal-best time of 10:57.17 to finish in second place in the 3,000m, while Brianna Breyault finished third with a time of 11:11.35. Hannah Adams and Maddy Morgan finished in sixth and seventh place with times of 11:28.49 and 11:34.01, respectively.
  • Ana Hodneland and Sally King both competed in the 400m this afternoon, with Hodneland pacing the duo with a second-place finish and a time of 1:02.18. King crossed the finish line in 1:05.39 to finish in seventh place. In the 800m, Sofia Petrucelli clocked a time of 2:24.22 to finish in second place. Mary Gorsky finished in seventh place after crossing the finish line in a season-best time of 2:27.10.
  • Jesma Evans secured a first-place finish in the 200m this evening after clocking a season-best time of 26.37s, the seventh-fastest time in program history. Lilly Versen and Simmons Lee finished back-to-back in sixth and seventh place with times of 27.21s and 27.46s, respectively.
  • Simone Kasischke was the lone General in the high jump, turning in a second-place finish after clearing a season-best height of 1.52m (4'-11.75"). Bella Timmerding turned in a top-five finish in the weight throw as she finished fifth with a personal-best mark of 14.09m (46'-02.50"), the third-best mark in program history.
  • The Generals had three student-athletes finish within the top eight, including a first- and second-place finish from Mad McMurphy and Layla Keadle. McMurphy cleared a height of 3.52m (11'-06.50") to earn gold, while Keadle secured silver with a mark of 3.37m (11'-00.25"). Gabby Pullen rounded out the trio with a seventh-place finish after clearing a height of 2.92m (9'-06.75").
  • Emily Jackson and Katie Wood rounded out the meet in the shot put. Jackson finished in second place with a mark of 11.89m (39'-00.00"), while Wood recorded a mark of 11.18m (36'-08.00") to finish in fourth place.

  • The postseason begins next weekend as the Generals will head to Salem, Va. for the ODAC Indoor Championships on Feb. 28 and Mar. 1.
