The Generals and Yellow Jackets Meet for the 74th Time on Saturday Afternoon at Wilson Field

LEXINGTON, Va. - Two of the top teams in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) square off on Saturday afternoon in Lexington as the Washington and Lee University welcomes No. 23/25 Randolph-Macon College to Wilson Field for a 1 p.m. kick off.

Series History: Saturday's game will mark the 74th meeting between the two programs and the 38th at Wilson Field. The Yellow Jackets hold a 37-33-3 overall record over the Generals since their first meeting on Oct. 17, 1903. Randolph-Macon has had the upper hand in recent memory, as it has won the last four match ups.

Last season, the Yellow Jackets prevailed in a rain-soaked game in Ashland, defeating the Blue and White, 24-6, at Day Field. Randolph-Macon generated 325 yards of total offense in the win, rushing for 271 yards and three touchdowns on 59 carries. The Yellow Jackets limited the Generals to only 136 yards of offense, their lowest output since Nov. 20, 2021, while forcing a fumble. RMC dominated time of possession, holding onto the ball for nearly 40 minutes of game time while scoring on three of its four trips to the red zone.

Dante Casciola was 5-for-7 (71%) from the pocket for 54 yards while adding 54 yards on the ground on 19 carries. Ty Collins was 6-of-14 (43%) for 51 yards with an interception. Mitchell Johnson led all rushers with 179 yards on 22 carries while finding the end zone twice. Cameron Chatmon also found the end zone for the Yellow Jackets, while Anthony Crawford paced the Generals' rushing attack with 12 carries for 82 yards and a score. Basit Qadri and Josh Garcia '26 each caught three passes for their respective offenses, with Qadri picking up 40 yards while Garcia gained 32.

Defensively, Brennan Stout led all tacklers with 21 tackles, while Jack Johnson '26 (12) and Will Knight '26 (10) each reached double figures. Cooper Taylor registered the lone sack of the afternoon, with Will Mahmud '26 posting a team-high 2.0 tackles for loss. Neftali Reyes led the Yellow Jackets' defense with eight tackles, including three solo stops, while Tim Semisch recorded a sack. Kindin Richardson picked off Collins and added a 30-yard return while breaking up another pass.

Scouting the Yellow Jackets: The Yellow Jackets, who moved up to No. 23 in the D3football.com Top 25 and 25th in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Poll, head into Week 5 with a 3-1 record. After dropping their season opener to Dickinson College, 27-14, they bounced back with a 28-21 upset win over No. 3 Johns Hopkins University before scoring 40 points in each of their next two match ups against Maryville (42-14) and Bridgewater (46-6).

The Yellow Jackets are averaging 32.5 points per game through five weeks of action while averaging 362.8 yards of total offense. RMC's offense hits opposing defenses with a balanced attack, rushing for an average of 185.8 yards while airing it out for 177.0 yards per game. Randolph-Macon has the second-best defensive unit in the ODAC, allowing only 274.8 yards per game. Opposing offenses have gained 124.3 yards on the ground per game, while the Yellow Jackets allow a league-best 150.5 yards in the passing game.

Quarterback Jake Mulhern is 38-of-55 (69%) from the pocket for 617 yards and seven touchdowns with three interceptions. Mulhern is averaging 154.3 yards per game while rushing 11 times for 18 yards and a touchdown. Mitchell Johnson is pacing the Yellow Jackets' rushing attack with 315 yards on 49 carries with a pair of touchdowns. Devin Bryant eclipsed the 100-yard mark as well, as he has carried the ball 30 times for 129 yards and a score. Detric Brown has five rushing touchdowns this season on 22 carries while adding 87 yards. Basit Qadri is Mulhern's top option in the air, as he has caught 12 passes for 176 yards and two touchdowns. Malakiah Moore (131) and Quinten Jones (118) are the next two top options in the air, with Moore scoring a pair of touchdowns while Jones has hauled in one.

Matthew MacNichol is RMC's top tackler this year, registering 33 tackles, including 12 solo stops and three tackles for loss. He's added an interception and two pass breakups. The Yellow Jackets have four other tacklers with 20 or more stops this year, including Jackson Hall (29), Zach Tyler (28), Christian Daniel (23) and Quentin Mankin (23). Hall leads the team with 3.5 tackles for loss, while Tyler Godbolt leads the team with a sack.

Scouting the Generals: 
W&L is heading into Week 6 with a 3-1 overall record and a 1-0 mark in league play. The Blue and White defeated Wittenberg and Gettysburg in the first two weeks before falling to No. 14 Salisbury before the bye week. They opened conference play with a 34-7 win over Averett University.

W&L produced 353 yards of total offense in the win, including a season-high 287 rushing yards and four touchdowns, while possessing the ball for nearly 36 minutes en route to the win. The Generals' defense limited the Cougars' offense to 226 yards, their lowest output of the season, while forcing eight punts and a turnover.

On the season, the Blue and White are averaging 346.8 yards per game while rushing for 259.5 yards and throwing for 87.3 yards. All 12 of the Generals' touchdowns this season have come on the ground while averaging 21.7 points per game. Opposing offenses have used a balanced attack against the defense, rushing for 172.0 yards and throwing for 175.0 yards while averaging 347.0 yards of total offense.

Quarterback Ty Collins is 25-of-53 (47%) from the pocket for 335 yards while adding 128 yards on the ground with a touchdown. The Generals' rushing attack has five ball carriers with over 100 yards this year, led by Ryan Clemens, who has carried the ball 75 times for 306 yards and four touchdowns. Carter Shallcross has added 195 yards on 23 carries, averaging 8.5 yards per carry with three touchdowns. Collins (128), Anthony Crawford (106) and Tommy Acosta (100) have all cracked triple digits in the rushing game. Teddy Sparrow has caught a team-high eight passes for 118 yards, while Shallcross has hauled in seven passes for 87 yards.

Defensively, Brennan Stout has been one of the premier tacklers in the nation this season, leading the team with 55 tackles, including 13 solo stops, 2.0 tackles for loss and a fumble recovery. Marcus Canton ranks second on the team with 24 tackles, including 11 solo stops and a tackle for loss. Randolph Smith leads the team with 4.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. Thomas Cook and Jack Payne have also recorded sacks for the Blue and White.

National Rankings: 
There was a little shakeup in both Top 25 polls after the fifth week of the Division III football season. North Central College (Ill.) remains the top-ranked team in both polls after a 4-0 start. Wheaton College (Ill.) moved up one spot to No. 2 in both polls, while St. John's jumped to No. 3 after a dominant 42-16 win over eighth-ranked Bethel (Minn.). UW-Platteville held steady at No. 4 after defeating UW-Stout, while UW-Whitewater rounded out the top five in both polls after knocking off UW-River Falls, the defending national champion, 24-16.

Randolph-Macon moved up two spots to No. 23 in the D3football.com national poll while checking back in at No. 25 in the AFCA Top 25. Hampden-Sydney and Roanoke are also receiving votes in the AFCA Poll this week.

National Statistical Rankings: The Generals' offense is ranked in multiple statistical categories through the fifth week of the season. They lead the nation in fewest penalties, having been penalized only seven times through four games, while ranking third in turnovers lost with one. W&L's multifaceted rushing attack ranks 11th in Division III this season, as the Generals average 259.5 yards per game.

Brennan Stout remains one of the nation's elite tacklers, as he leads Division III and ranks second across all divisions with 13.8 tackles per game. He also ranks third in total tackles with 55 stops.
