LYNCHBURG, Va. – The eighth-ranked Washington and Lee men's soccer team met up against sixth-ranked Lynchburg for the second time this season on Saturday afternoon, and the teams walked away with a 1-1 draw.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- With the Generals (9-2-2, 3-1-2 ODAC) holding the lead for a majority of the game, it was the Hornets (10-1-3, 4-0-2 ODAC) who found the late equalizer, as Matthew Viscuso curled in a free kick from just outside the goal box in the 83rd minute.
- W&L got its goal in the 22nd minute when senior Matthew Jenkins caused some chaos in the Lynchburg defensive third. Jenkins got his foot in the way of a potential clear inside the Lynchburg goal box, as the ball went right to first-year Rowan Sellers near the six-yard box who scored between the keeper's legs for the 1-0 lead.
- The Generals had the final scoring opportunity of the game, which came in the 90th minute when they got a corner kick. Sophomore Sami Seife sent the out-swinging cross into the box, which made its way all the way through traffic and to senior Spencer Furman at the box post. Furman took a swing at the ball from the six, but his attempt went over the crossbar.
