Hedgemon Resets Program Record, Three Generals Post Top Ten Marks at Bast-Cregger

SALEM, Va. - Senior Bailey Hedgemon of the Washington and Lee University women's track and field team reset her own program record while three other student-athletes posted top ten marks at the Bast-Cregger Invitational on Saturday.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MEET
  • Hedgemon highlighted the meet by resetting her own program record in the weight throw to finish in first place. She recorded a new personal-best mark of 16.94m (55'-07.00") to claim the top spot, which currently ranks as the 10th-best mark in Division III.
  • Reese Brown and Amelia Weenig both competed in the mile to open the second day of competition. Brown clocked a time of 5:16.79 to finish second, while Weenig crossed the finish line in 5:29.22 to place eighth.
  • The Blue and White had three student-athletes compete in the finals of the 60m hurdles. Lucy Buchmayr led the trio with a fourth-place finish, crossing the line in 9.62s. Piper Shannon followed closely in fifth with a time of 9.82s, while Joanne Lee finished seventh in 9.99s.
  • Lilly Versen competed in the finals of the 60m dash after advancing through Friday's prelims and semifinals, finishing fifth with a time of 8.05s. Jesma Evans and Annabelle Sutliff also competed in the 400m, finishing third and eighth, respectively. Evans clocked a time of 59.19s to claim bronze, while Sutliff posted a time of 1:02.06.
  • Lucie Graziano, Sofia Petrucelli, and Kate Odell all finished within the top eight of the 800m. Graziano paced the group with a third-place finish in 2:26.94, while Petrucelli and Odell placed fifth and sixth with times of 2:27.78 and 2:28.19, respectively.
  • Lilly Nastopoulos added an eighth-place finish in the 3,000m, crossing the line in 11:26.89. Ana Hodneland, Annabelle Sutliff, Lucie Graziano, and Jesma Evans teamed up in the 4x400m relay and finished second with a time of 4:09.52.
  • Mackenzie Morante was the lone General in the triple jump, placing sixth with a mark of 10.36m (34'-00.00").
  • Katie Wood, Emily Jackson, and Leah Smith capped off the meet in the shot put. Wood finished fourth with a personal-best toss of 11.59m (38'-00.25"), which ranks third in program history. Jackson followed closely in fifth with a mark of 11.56m (37'-11.25"), while Smith placed seventh after recording a personal-best throw of 12.93m (42'-05.25"), the fourth-best mark in program history.

  • The Generals are back in action on Feb. 6-7 as they head to neighboring VMI for the Winter Relays. Members of the team will also be competing at the Doc Hale Invite at Virginia Tech on Friday, Feb. 6.
