Women’s Track and Field Wraps Up Day One of Bast-Cregger Invite

SALEM, Va. - The Washington and Lee University women's track and field team wrapped up the first day of the Bast-Cregger Invitational with a pair of first place finishes.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MEET
  • Piper Shannon, Lucy Buchmayr, and Joanne Lee opened the meet in the 60m hurdles, with all three posting top-eight times to qualify for Saturday's finals. Shannon led the trio with the fourth-fastest time, clocking 9.36s. Buchmayr and Lee finished back-to-back in sixth and seventh place with times of 9.62s and 9.68s, respectively. The finals are scheduled for 12:35 p.m. on Saturday.
  • Mad McMurphy earned a first-place finish in the pole vault after clearing 3.58m (11'-09.00") on her second attempt. Layla Keadle followed in second place with a mark of 3.43m (11'-03.00"). Abby Cholewa and Gabby Pullen tied for fourth after each cleared 2.98m (9'-09.25") on their first attempts.
  • Lilly Versen advanced to the finals of the 60m dash after posting the fifth-fastest time in the semifinals. Versen clocked 8.16s in the prelims before improving to 8.02s in the semifinals to finish fifth. The finals are slated for 12:50 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
  • Camille Gillum secured another first-place finish in the high jump, clearing each height on her first attempt. She tied Marin Simons of Southern Virginia with a mark of 1.60m (5'-03.00"). Simone Kasischke also earned a top-eight finish, tying for seventh after clearing 1.50m (5'-01.00").
  • The Generals' distance crew finished third through seventh in the 5,000m. Adelaide Ellis paced the group with a third-place finish in 15:51.81. Eve Spencer posted a personal-best time of 18:54.74 to finish fourth, followed closely by Sarah Clark in fifth at 19:20.02. Brianna Breyault and Josie Engle rounded out the group in sixth and seventh with times of 19:41.06 and 19:53.39.
