Three Generals Enter Record Books at VMI Team Challenge

LEXINGTON, Va. - Three members of the Washington and Lee University women's track & field team posted program top-ten marks at the VMI Team Challenge on Saturday afternoon.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MEET
  • Mad McMurphy highlighted the meet with a second-place finish in the pole vault. McMurphy secured her finish with a personal-best mark of 3.60m (11'-09.75"), which ranks second all-time in program history. Layla Keadle followed closely in third place after clearing 3.45m (11'-03.75"). Abby Cholewa and Gabby Pullen rounded out the field for the Blue and White, finishing seventh and eighth, respectively, after both cleared 3.00m (9'-10.00").
  • Bailey Hedgemon claimed first place in the weight throw with a mark of 16.29m (53'-05.50"). Bella Timmerding recorded a toss of 13.03m (42'-09.00") to finish seventh, while Katie Wood posted the seventh-best mark in program history at 12.39m (40'-07.75") to place eighth.
  • Sofia Petrucelli and Charlotte Gardner competed in the 600m, with Petrucelli finishing fourth after crossing the line in 1:42.54. Gardner clocked a time of 1:45.48 to place eighth. Eve Spencer added a seventh-place finish in the 3,000m, posting a personal-best time of 10:39.60. Annabelle Sutliff also entered the program's top-10 list in the 200m, clocking a time of 26.46s to rank eighth all-time.
  • Wood and Emily Jackson finished back-to-back in the shot put, placing sixth and seventh, respectively. Wood recorded a toss of 11.28m (37'-00.25"), while Jackson followed with a mark of 11.18m (36'-08.25").
  • Camille Gillum posted a season-best performance in the high jump, finishing second after clearing 1.60m (5'-03.00"). Simone Kasischke tied for sixth place after soaring over 1.50m (4'-11.00"). Mackenzie Morante also earned a top-eight finish in the triple jump, placing sixth with a mark of 10.12m (33'-02.50").
  • Lucie Graziano, Elizabeth Sawicki, Mary Gorsky, and Julie Anne Bush capped off the meet by teaming up in the distance medley relay. The quartet clocked a time of 13:06.48 to finish first.

  • The Generals are back in action on Saturday, Jan. 24 as they travel to Harrisonburg, Va. for the Shane Stevens Winter Invite.
