Box Score NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — The Washington and Lee University field hockey team dropped a 1–0 decision on the road against sixth-ranked Christopher Newport on Sunday at Jennings Stadium. Christopher Newport (3–0) netted the game's lone goal late in the second quarter and held off Washington and Lee (1–2) despite a career-high effort in goal from senior Julia McDonald.

The Captains broke through at 22:37 when Emily Evans finished a pass from Courtney Hughlett for the decisive tally. McDonald kept the Generals in the contest, turning away 18 shots as CNU outshot W&L 32–8 and held a 21–5 advantage in shots on goal. Her 18 saves match the fourth-best single-game performance in program history, equaling marks set by Kirsten Kyne against Johns Hopkins in 2012 and Caroline Habliston at Christopher Newport in 2009.

Washington and Lee generated chances in each quarter, including penalty corners in the second, third, and fourth periods, but the Captains' defense and goalkeeper Lily Kerr (four saves) preserved the shutout.
