No. 13 Generals take second at MCC Women's Intercollegiate, four players in Top 15

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The 13th-ranked Washington and Lee women's golf team showed a four-stroke improvement in Round 2 on Monday and placed four golfers inside the Top 15 to finish in second place at the 2025 MCC Women's Intercollegiate.
 
TEAM & INDIVIDUAL LEADERS THRU ROUND 2:
  • Natalie Catapano (Sewanee) claimed the individual title at 3-under (68-73—141). Camryn Kiser (Mary Hardin-Baylor) and Julia Sosa (UMHB) tied for second four shots behind Catapano, while W&L junior Ella Wong took fourth at 3-over (70-77—147) for the tournament.
  • No. 24 Mary Hardin-Baylor captured the team win at 27-over (302-301—603). The Generals were a close second at 32-over par (306-302—608), with Huntingdon following in third at 39-over (304-311—615).
W&L ROUND 2 PLAYER SUMMARIES:
  • Wong shot a 5-over 77 on Monday to finish fourth on the individual leaderboard. She recorded two birdies and nine pars on the day, and ended her round on a high note by going 1-under on her final five holes.
  • First-years Mackenzie Cline and Toral Bhatt tied for 11th at 9-over 153. Cline went 3-over on Monday with a pair of birdies and 13 pars to lead all players in the field with 25 pars over the two rounds. Bhatt shot a 5-over 77 in Round 2 and made three birdies.
  • Sophomore Berkeley Bundy had the strongest second round among Generals shooting just 1-over on Monday, an 11-stroke improvement from Round 1. She sank three birdies and made par 12 times to tie with Bhatt for the fifth-most pars across the two days (22). Bundy finished 15th overall on the leaderboard.
  • Senior Julia Haetzel rounded out the starting lineup for W&L with a 28th-place finish after a 9-over 81. Sophomore Alex Crews performed well individually with a 4-over 76, also an 11-shot improvement from the first day.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Wong finished the tournament with seven birdies, tied for third most in the tournament. She also had the fourth-best par-3 scoring average (3.00), fifth-best par-4 scoring average (4.30) and sixth-best par-5 average (4.63).
  • Bundy and Bhatt also made their way into the scoring average leaderboards. Bundy averaged 3.13 on par 3s, 10th best in the field, while Bhatt tied for ninth in par-4 scoring (4.40).
  • The Generals topped the field as a team in par-3 scoring (3.13) and were second in both par-4 scoring (4.48) and par-5 scoring (4.97). They also logged the third-most birdies (21) and the most pars (100) for the tournament, with four players on the Top 10 par leaderboard.

The Generals will next compete at the Tartan Invitational (Carnegie Mellon) from Tuesday to Wednesday, October 6-7, at the Nemacolin-Mystic Rock Course in Pittsburgh, Pa.
