Box Score BALTIMORE, Md. — The Washington and Lee University field hockey team dropped its season opener 4–2 at fifth-ranked Johns Hopkins on Thursday evening at Homewood Field.

Hopkins (1–0) struck first and, after W&L (0–1) scored an early equalizer in the second quarter, responded with three unanswered goals to build a 4–1 advantage before the Generals pulled one back in the final seconds.

The Blue Jays opened the scoring at the 24:56 mark when Megan Chang finished off a penalty corner with an assist from Jenna Halpin. The Generals answered less than three minutes later, as first-year Britty Page scored her first collegiate goal at 27:52, slotting home a cross from classmate Madeline Lancione. Hopkins quickly regained the lead at 29:46 when Evie Hamm converted a feed from Chang, then extended the margin to 3–1 early in the third quarter on a successful penalty stroke by Halpin at 35:16.

Hopkins capped its scoring in the 39th minute when Chang slipped a pass into the circle for Grace Waldeck, who buried a shot for a 4–1 advantage. Washington and Lee battled until the end, pulling one back with three seconds left in regulation when sophomore defender Charlotte Dreany scored her first goal of the season off another assist from Lancione at 59:57 to register her first career goal with the Generals.
