No. 12 Women's Golf Battles Weather Delay in Opening Day of NCAA tournament

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — Play was suspended due to darkness on Tuesday evening following a five-hour weather delay on the opening day of the 2025 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship at Kingsmill Resort's River Course.

Ten teams were able to complete their first round before play was halted. Washington and Lee University was not among them, but the Generals managed to complete 13 holes before sunset. W&L sits at 37-over par in the partial round. The championship format will resume Wednesday morning with teams completing the first round before continuing into Round 2.

  • Round 1 (Tuesday, May 12)
    • 10:22 a.m. - play suspended due to heavy rains and flooding.
    • 2:05 p.m. - play is slated to resume at 3 p.m., with Alex Crews scheduled for a 3:35 p.m. tee time.
    • 7:54 p.m. - play suspended due to darkness. 


Championship Format & Competition

The 72-hole NCAA championship includes 34 teams and six individuals competing in both team and individual formats. After 36 holes, the field will be cut to the top 15 teams and top six individuals not on those teams to compete in the final two rounds.

This year's championship will be hosted by Christopher Newport University, with the competition staged on Kingsmill's acclaimed River Course — marking the first time a Division III national championship will be held at the prestigious three-course venue.
