W&L Women’s Golf Finishes Fourth at Westbrook Village Invitational

PEORIA, Ariz. – The 16th-ranked Washington and Lee University women's golf team climbed one spot on the leaderboard in the final round of the Westbrook Village Invitational, finishing fourth out of 10 teams with a total score of 601 (+33) after posting a strong 292 (+8) second round at Westbrook Village Golf Club.

The Generals jumped past No. 14 Centre, besting the Colonels by five strokes, to claim a top-four finish. No. 6 George Fox won the tournament at even-par (568), while No. 10 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (+2, 570) and No. 1 Emory (+7, 575) rounded out the top three.

Individually, George Fox's Alison Takamiya took home medalist honors at 7-under-par (135), firing a 5-under final round to secure the win.

Individual Highlights

  • First-year Alex Crews finished 15th overall, rising three spots after an even-par 71 in the final round. She played a blemish-free back nine, capping her round with back-to-back birdies on Holes 14 and 15 (both par 4s).
  • Sophomore Ella Wong surged five spots to finish 26th overall at 9-over (78-71—149). She recorded three birdies on the front nine and closed with eight pars on the back nine, her only blemish coming on a two-putt at Hole 10.
  • First-year Berkley Bundy placed 22nd overall at 8-over (76-74—150), dropping four spots. She finished 1-over on the front nine but rebounded on the back, playing her final eight holes perfectly aside from a double bogey on Hole 11 (par 4).
  • Junior Julia Haetzel climbed four spots to finish 31st at +11 (79-74—153). She shaved five strokes off her opening round, recording one birdie and 13 pars on Sunday.
  • Senior Laetitia Roegner improved seven positions to finish 34th overall at +13 (80-75—155). She played five strokes better than her first round, carding two birdies on the final day in Arizona.
  • Senior Marcella Mercer competed as an individual, finishing 62nd at +26 (86-82—168).

Notable Player Performances

  • Wong and Crews led the team in birdies during the final round (3 each).
  • Wong played par 3s at 1-under, while Crews played them even-par.
