PEORIA, Ariz. – The Washington and Lee University women's golf team opened play at the Westbrook Village Invitational on Saturday, posting a 309 (+25) in the first round to stand in fifth place among 10 teams at Westbrook Village Golf Club.
The No. 6-ranked George Fox leads the tournament after carding a 285 (+1), with No. 1 Emory (+6) and No. 10 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (+7) rounding out the top three. The Generals will look to improve in Sunday's final round after a competitive start to the spring schedule
George Fox' Makensie Toole shot the lowest round, three strokes under par on Saturday and just five players, including Toole, recorded scores for par or better after 18 holes.

- Sophomore Ella Wong posted a 78 (+7), sitting in 31st place after a steady round.
- Junior Julia Haetzel carded a 79 (+8) for 35th place, highlighted by two birdies.
- Senior Laetitia Roegner recorded an 80 (+9) to finish the first round in 41st place.
- Senior Marcella Mercer competed as an individual, posting an 86 (+15), placing 61st overall.
