W&L Women’s Golf Finishes 11th at Jekyll Island

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – The Washington and Lee University women's golf team closed out the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational with its best round of the tournament, moving up three more spots on Sunday to finish 11th overall with a team score of 329-317-301—947 (+83) at King and Prince Golf Course – Hampton Course (Par 72, 5,601 yards).

The Generals steadily climbed the leaderboard throughout the weekend, improving by 12 strokes between rounds one and two, then firing a 301 (+13) in the final round, the program's best score of the tournament. Only two teams, Emory and Carnegie Mellon, shot under par in the final round.

Final Team Standings (Top 5):

  1. No. 2 Emory – 882 (+18) (Final round: -1, 287)
  2. No. 1 Carnegie Mellon – 883 (+19) (Final round: -3, 285)
  3. No. 5 Wellesley – 896 (+32) (Final round: +4, 292)
  4. No. 8 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps – 910 (+46) (Final round: +13, 301)
  5. No. 17 Denison University – 933 (+69) (Final round: +12, 300) & No. 25 Rhodes College – 933 (+69) (Final round: +18, 306)

Team Performance Highlights:

  • Par 3 Scoring: 3.41 avg. (+25)
  • Par 4 Scoring: 4.47 avg. (+70)
  • Par 5 Scoring: 5.38 avg. (+23)
  • Total Pars: 139
  • Total Birdies: 20

Individual Highlights:

  • Sophomore Ella Wong had a strong final round, jumping 12 spots to finish T-28th with a three-day total of 80-79-73—232 (+16). Her final-round 73 (+1) was her best of the weekend. She was 2-under through the front nine before finishing 3-over on the back, leading the team in birdies (6) and par 4 scoring (4.23, +7).
  • Senior Laetitia Roegner climbed nine spots on the final day and 23 total over the weekend to finish T-40th at +20 (83-78-75—236). She played 1-over in the final round and led the team in both par 3 (3.17 avg., +2) and par 5 scoring (5.08 avg., +1). Roegner also matched Wong's six total birdies for the tournament.
  • First-year Berkley Bundy finished T-44th at +21 (83-78-76—237) after posting her lowest round of the tournament (+4, 76). She rose five spots on the final day.
  • Junior Julia Haetzel posted a consistent tournament scorecard of 83-82-80—245 (+29), improving each day coming in tied for 60th. She moved up three spots and carded birdies on Holes 1 and 13.
  • First-year Alex Crews made a significant move, rising 17 positions on Sunday to finish T-68th at +32 (89-82-77—248). She posted her best round of the weekend in the final round, shooting in the high-70s to cap off her tournament.
