Women’s Golf Climbs Four Spots in Second Round at Jekyll Island Collegiate

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – The Washington and Lee University women's golf team made significant strides in the second round of the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational on Saturday, climbing four spots on the leaderboard to finish the day in 14th place with a team score of 317 (+29), an improvement of 12 strokes from the opening round. The Generals hold a two-round total of 329-317—646 (+70) heading into the final day at King and Prince Golf Course (Par 72, 5,601 yards).

Emory (+19) leads the tournament, followed by Carnegie Mellon (+22) and Wellesley (+28) in the top three. The field remained challenging, with the second-round scoring average slightly improving to 82.07 strokes across 120 players.

Team Performance Highlights:

  • Total Strokes: 317 (-12 improvement from Round 1)
  • Total Birdies: 4 (Bundy, Roegner, Haetzel each recorded birdies)
  • Best Scoring Stretch: Ella Wong closed the round with six consecutive holes even to par

Individual Highlights:

  • Sophomore Ella Wong dropped to 40th place despite improving her score, posting a 7-over 79 for a two-round total of 159 (+15). She finished strong with six consecutive pars to close the round.
  • First-year Berkley Bundy and senior Laetitia Roegner each jumped 14 spots to T-49th at +17 (83-78—161). Both improved by five strokes from Round 1, finishing 6-over on the day, and carded a birdie each.
  • Junior Julia Haetzel moved up three spots to T-66th at +21 (83-82—165). She recorded birdies on Holes 1 and 13 while improving her score by one stroke.
  • First-year Alex Crews made one of the biggest moves of the day, jumping 13 spots to T-85th after shaving seven strokes off her opening round. She is now 27-over through two rounds.

Up Next:

The Generals will tee off for the final round of the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational on Sunday, March 17, at 8:55 a.m. from Hole 10 at King and Prince Golf Club. W&L looks to continue climbing the leaderboard and finish the weekend on a strong note.
