2025 Women’s Track & Field Outdoor Season Preview

LEXINGTON, Va. - Following a very successful indoor season where they claimed their first Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Indoor Trophy in 16 years, the Washington and Lee University women's track and field team shifts their focus to the outdoor season which is slated to begin this weekend.

Last season, the Generals finished second at the outdoor conference championships, registering 140.5 points while 27 student-athletes finished within the top-eight in their respective events. Ashley D'Ambrosia and Bailey Hedgemon both claimed conference titles in the pole vault and hammer throw, respectively.

2025 Outdoor Schedule Overview

The Outdoor season will kick off this weekend in Lexington as the Generals host the W&L Carnival on Friday and Saturday. The Blue and White will be on the road for back-to-back weekends, competing at the Doc Jopson Invite on Mar. 28 & 29 at Bridgewater College before making the trip to Williamsburg, Va. for the Colonial Relays at William & Mary on April. 4 & 5.

A pair of Saturday meets will wrap up the regular season as they Generals will head to Harrisonburg for the EMU Heritage Invitational on April 11 followed by the Johns Hopkins / Loyola Invitational on April 19 in Baltimore, Md. The Blue and White will head into Championship season on April 25 & 26 for the 2025 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) at Eastern Mennonite University.

W&L will compete in a pair of twilight meets in Lynchburg as they compete on May 2 at the University of Lynchburg and May 6 at Liberty University with hopes of securing their spot for the 2025 NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships in Geneva, Ohio on May 23 & 24.

Key Returners 

The Generals return seven All-ODAC Selections from last year's conference championship. Amanda Romano and Simmons Lee are returning from the Second Team All-ODAC 4x400m Relay team that clocked in a time of 4:01.29, the second-fastest time in program history. Ashley D'Ambrosia and Bailey Hedgemon are the only First Team All-ODAC returners for the Blue and White. D'Ambrosia claimed her first outdoor pole vault title last season to earn first team laurels after clearing a height of 3.56m (11'-08.00"). Hedgemon became the first General to win the hammer throw at the conference meet, posting a mark of 47.47m (155'-08.75") to earn First Team honors.

In addition to the 4x400m relay, Romano earned Second Team laurels in the 400m hurdles after turning in a second place finish with a time of 1:04.15. Camille Gillum, Brianna Breyault and Olivia Warr round out the All-ODAC returners from last season, all earning Third Team honors in 2024. Gillum turned in a third place finish in the high jump after clearing a height of 1.62m (5'-03.75") while Breyault clocked in a time of 11:40.61 to finish in third in the 3,000m Steeplechase. Warr was honored as a third team selection after finishing third in the 5,000m, crossing the finish line in 17:59.31.

The Blue and White also return five All-Region honorees this season as Amanda Romano, Brianna Breyault, Ashley D'Ambrosia, Bailey Hedgemon and Camille Gillum all earned All-Region laurels last outdoors season.
