Wrestling Sits in Fourth After Day One of Regionals

DANVILLE, Va. - Washington and Lee wrestlers put together a strong showing on the first day of the NCAA Division III Region 4 Championships, with all ten athletes still in the hunt for a spot at the 2025 DIII Wrestling National Championships. Seven Generals have advanced through the to the championship semifinals while the remaining three are still active in the wrestle-back bracket, looking to make their way into the third-place matches. 

Tony Urso (125), Vincent Ziccardi (133), Skyler Hickman (141), Colin Bridges (157), Mark Troni (165), Jack McCusker (184), and John Santowski (197) each went 2-0, winning their championship quarterfinal bouts. 

Evan Lindner (149) and Jacob Wright (174) battled back in consolation rounds, with Lindner picking up two major decisions and Wright securing a major decision and a fall. Carter Stack (285) also won by tech fall in the consolation bracket after a close quarterfinal loss.

After the first of two days, Baldwin Wallace leads the team standings with 97.5 points, followed closely by Roanoke College (94.0) and Ohio Northern (93.5). Washington and Lee sits in fourth with 89.5 points, bolstered by multiple quarterfinal victories and strong performances in the consolation rounds. Averett (70.0) rounds out the top five in the field of 20 teams in the region.

Baldwin Wallace and Roanoke join the Generals as the only three teams with all 10 wrestlers still active in the tournament.
