W&L Wrestling Sets Program Record with Third-Place NWCA Academic Finish, 10 Scholar All-Americans

4/2/2026 11:55:00 AM

LEXINGTON, Va. – The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) announced its 2026 NCAA Division III Men's Scholar All-America selections, with Washington and Lee University placing 10 student-athletes on the list following the conclusion of the NCAA Division III Championships on March 13–14.

Washington and Lee's 10 honorees reflect the program's continued emphasis on academic achievement alongside competitive success. The group includes multiple All-ODAC honorees and six career NCAA qualifiers, highlighted by sophomore All-American Liam Flanagan, who contributed to one of the strongest seasons in program history with five ODAC Champions and national qualifiers. Also among the honorees is senior Evan Lindner, the program's all-time wins leader with 103 victories. Lindner became a three-time NCAA qualifier this season and is the only wrestler in ODAC history to reach the conference championship bout in all four seasons, capturing titles in each of the last three years.

In addition to its individual honors, Washington and Lee earned NWCA Men's Team Scholar All-America recognition, posting a 3.7859 team GPA to finish third nationally. The Generals trailed only Augsburg University (3.86) and Wesleyan University (3.846) in the final standings. The third-place finish marks the highest in program history, improving upon a fourth-place showing last year and a seventh-place finish in 2023–24.

W&L's NWCA Scholar All-Americans:

A total of 473 wrestlers from 105 institutions were recognized nationwide for their combined excellence in the classroom and on the mat.

"These student-athletes have demonstrated a strong commitment to excellence both on the mat and in the classroom," said NWCA Executive Director Mike Moyer. "We commend their dedication and the example they set for the sport."

The NWCA Scholar All-America distinction recognizes student-athletes who meet rigorous academic standards while competing at a high level throughout the collegiate wrestling season.
