YORK, Pa. — The No. 22 Washington and Lee University wrestling team surged to the top of the standings after the opening day of the New Standard Corporation Invitational, hosted by York College (Pa.).

The Generals posted 58.5 team points, advancing ten wrestlers into the championship quarterfinals or semifinals and positioning themselves ahead of a deep 16-team field that includes nationally ranked programs.

W&L used a combination of early bonus-point wins and bracket advancement to build a narrow lead over Ursinus (54.5) and Ithaca (53.0). The Generals placed 10 wrestlers into championship action throughout the first session, with five semifinalists leading the charge: Evan Lindner (149), Evan Owen (149), Skyler Hickman (141), Liam Flanagan (157) and Noah Danforth (157). Quarterfinalists Jacob Wright (174), John Santowski (197), Mark Troni (165) and Carter Stack (285) also remain alive in the title hunt heading into Day 2.

With multiple wrestlers still active in both championship and consolation brackets, W&L remains strongly positioned to contend for its highest New Standard Invitational finish in program history. View the complete results for the tournament here: FloSports Arena
