Men's Swimming Places Eighth at D3 Shootout

CHICAGO — The Washington and Lee University men's swimming team finished eighth overall with 448.5 points at the 2025 D3 Shootout, hosted by the University of Chicago, in a 10-team field that featured multiple nationally ranked programs.The Generals tallied five personal-bests overall and 14 season-best swims over the two days. 

Dalton Jobe led W&L in all scoring with 66 points towards the team score with a runner-up finish in the 200 freestyle, posting a 1:38.85 to earn an NCAA Division III "B" cut. He also posted 4:34.08 in the 500 freestyle, 1:51.82 in the 200 IM, and 58.27 in the 100 breaststroke, contributing the team's highest individual point total.

Leighton Chapman recorded season-best sprint times of 45.69 in the 100 freestyle, the second fastest time of the event, and 20.97 in the 50 freestyle.

Charles Byars added backstroke swims of 51.44 (relay lead-off) and 1:54.38 in the 200 backstroke. Zane Ross posted 1:53.53 in the 200 butterfly and 50.28 in the 100 butterfly, and Harrison Cerone recorded 57.47 in the 100 breaststroke and 2:11.60 in the 200 breaststroke.

Carter Whetstine and Lucas Chacon added depth in the IM and distance events, with Whetstine posting 4:16.17 in the 400 IM and 1:56.27 in the 200 backstroke, and Chacon finishing in 4:15.52 in the 400 IM and 4:47.18 in the 500 freestyle. Thomas Denton swam 1:43.65 in the 200 freestyle and 47.28 in the 100 freestyle.

Up Next: The Generals return to action at the Randolph-Macon Invitational, hosted in Hampton, Va., from November 21–23. Preliminary sessions begin at 10 a.m., with finals scheduled for 6 p.m. each day.
