No. 21 Field Hockey Advances to ODAC Semifinals with 3–0 Win Over Roanoke

LEXINGTON, Va. —The No. 21 Washington and Lee University field hockey team opened postseason play with a 3–0 victory over Roanoke College on Tuesday night in the ODAC Quarterfinals at the W&L Turf Field.

The Generals (14–4), the tournament's No. 3 seed, controlled possession from the opening whistle to eliminate the No. 6-seeded Maroons (5–13) and secure a spot in the conference semifinals.

Washington and Lee dominated all phases of play, outshooting Roanoke 25–0 and earning an 8–1 advantage in penalty corners.

The Generals broke through late in the first quarter when Madeline Lancione scored unassisted at 14:04, firing a low shot past the keeper for her ninth goal of the season. Margaret Scheurer extended the lead midway through the second quarter, finishing a rebound in front of the cage at 26:05. Scheurer later added her second of the night at 42:54, capitalizing on a penalty-corner setup from Margaret Cover to make it 3–0.

The defensive unit of Jordan Hoover, Charlotte Dreany, and Elaina Bellone was nearly flawless, holding Roanoke without a single shot attempt. Goalkeeper Julia McDonald earned her sixth complete shutout of the season and 13th of her career. Roanoke's Chloe Miller posted six saves on the night.

Up Next: Washington and Lee advances to the ODAC Semifinals to face No. 2-seeded Shenandoah University on Thursday, Nov. 6, at 6 p.m. The matchup will be hosted by Shenandoah in Winchester, Va. Tickets will be required for entry on Thursday night and can be purchased on HomeTown Ticketing.
