LEXINGTON, Va. - The Washington and Lee University women's volleyball locked up the fourth seed in the 2025 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) tournament and will play host in the Quarterfinals as they welcome fifth-seeded Shenandoah University to Holekamp Gym for a 6:30 p.m. match up on Tuesday, Nov. 11.
The Blue and White secured the fourth seed and the right to host the quarterfinals match inside Holekamp after posting an 8-3 record during the conference slate this season. Virginia Wesleyan (No. 1 seed), Lynchburg (No. 2 seed), and Bridgewater (No. 3 seed) will also host quarterfinals matches on Tuesday as well. The Marlins will take on eighth-seeded Roanoke, while the Hornets square off against seventh-seeded Randolph-Macon, with Bridgewater taking on sixth-seeded Guilford. All quarterfinal matches are set for 6:30 p.m.
All of W&L's wins during the conference season were sweeps, while they dropped three matches to the top three teams in the field. The Blue and White finished the regular season with a 20-9 record, kicking off the season with 11 straight wins.
The Quarterfinal Match Up
Fifth-seeded Shenandoah will make the trip to Lexington for the second time this season, with the last matchup 17 days ago on Oct. 25. The last time the Hornets and Generals squared off in the ODAC Tournament was in 2021, where the Blue and White took home a 3-0 win in the quarterfinals before hoisting the ODAC crown. Shenandoah heads into the postseason with a 13-10 overall record and a 7-4 mark in conference play.
The Generals' offense has registered 1,185 kills on 3,745 attempts with 395 errors for a .211 hitting percentage this season. They are averaging 12.1 kills per set while dishing out 1,084 assists, averaging 11.1 per set. They rank fourth in the ODAC in hitting percentage, assists, and kills this season, while ranking fifth in points with 1,503. The offense is led by junior Grace Mitchener, senior Riley Debiec, and first-year Cara Hamil, who have combined for 788 of their 1,185 kills (66%) this season. Mitchener leads the team and ranks second in the ODAC with 332 kills on 1,027 attempts with 86 errors for a .240 hitting percentage. Debiec has registered 300 kills this season on 796 attempts with 82 errors for a .274 hitting percentage, marking her third consecutive season with 300 or more kills. First-year Sienna Nichoson and sophomore Addi Johnson have powered the Blue and White's offense this season. Nichoson leads the charge with 597 assists, the fifth-most in the ODAC this season, while Johnson has dished out 232 assists.
Shenandoah's offense has registered 1,028 kills this season, averaging 11.6 per set while dishing out 969 assists for an average of 10.9. The Hornets' offense is led by Hannah Hylton, Ashlynn Spence, and Alana Washington, who have combined for 677 kills this season. Hylton leads the pack with 296 kills, while Spence has added 218. Autumn Stroop, Hylton, and Amanda Ingrassia also find ways to score from the service line, as they each have 30 or more aces this season, with Stroop's team-high 35.
W&L's defense has forced opposing teams to hit .129—the third-lowest in the ODAC this season. They lead the ODAC and rank 12th in Division III with 1,988 digs, while ranking third in the country in digs per set, averaging 20.4. The Blue and White have also registered 144 blocks this season, averaging 1.5 per set. Junior Vivi Vasquez leads the team and the ODAC in digs this season with 510, averaging 5.31 per set. Mitchener follows behind with 315, while sophomore Emily Schellenberg (282) and senior Penelope Quiles (262) have each recorded over 200 digs this season. Senior Emery Goerig leads the team in blocks this year with 47, including 11 solo and 36 assisted. Debiec has also eclipsed the mark this season, recording 41 blocks with nine solo.
Defensively, Shenandoah is led by Autumn Stroop, who leads the team with 410 digs, averaging 5.06 per set, which ranks fifth in the conference this season. Hylton and Ingrassia follow behind with 296 and 202 digs, respectively. Ashlynn Spence ranks seventh in the conference with a team-high 65 blocks, including 17 solo stops, while Chillis Oke (38) and Amber Shifflett (36) have eclipsed the 30-block mark.
