No. 11 Generals break program's 36-hole scoring record to close Tartan Invitational

FARMINGTON, Pa. – The 11th-ranked Washington and Lee women's golf team finished off a program-record for 36-hole total (588) on Tuesday with a 10-over 298 to take fifth place at the Tartan Invitational.
 
TEAM & INDIVIDUAL LEADERS THRU ROUND 2:
  • No. 2 Emory claimed the team title in western Pennsylvania with a 15-under 273 to notch a two-day score of 557 (284-273). No. 5 New York University drew second at 11-under (284-281—565), No. 1 Carnegie Mellon placed third at 5-under (283-288—571) and Washington-St. Louis was fourth at 2-under (286-288—574).
  • Sophomore Berkeley Bundy came in 13th overall to lead W&L. NYU's Jiayi Fu topped the field with an 8-under 136 (71-65), while Emory's Carys Code (-7, 71-66—137) and Zimo Li (-6, 72-66—138) followed in second and third.
W&L ROUND 2 PLAYER SUMMARIES:
  • Bundy shot a 2-over 74 for the day after tying the program's 18-hole record on Monday (69). She had three birdies in round two and shot even par on the back nine.
  • First-years Toral Bhatt and Mackenzie Cline were the next two Generals on the leaderboard at 4-over to tie for 21st overall. Bhatt matched Bundy's 2-over 74 for the day, adding three birdies to her card. Cline was 3-over in round two and also made three birdies.
  • Junior Ella Wong came in 27th overall after shooting a 3-over 75 which included three birdies and nine pars. She was 1-over on the front nine and 2-over on the back.
  • Senior Julia Haetzel was 6-over on Tuesday to finish at 10-over and 38th place overall, while sophomore Alex Crews placed 31st as an individual after going 5-over for the day and 7-over in the tournament.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Helped by a first-round 2-over 290 on Monday, the Generals' 36-hole score of 588 broke the program's 36-hole score record by five strokes. W&L shot consecutive 17-over 593's at the 2022 and 2023 MCC Women's Intercollegiate. W&L's 12-over par score at this year's Tartan Invitational was also a 36-hole record for the program.
  • The Generals tied for the second-best par-5 scoring average (4.83) across the 36 holes, and also made the second-most pars in the field (112). W&L tied with the top-ranked Tartans for fourth-best par-4 scoring (4.17).
  • Bundy and Cline finished among the leaders in par-5 scoring, as both averaged 4.63 strokes to tie for the sixth-best mark. Bhatt rounded out her tournament tied for the second-most pars (25) with Bundy tied for fourth (24).

The Generals will be back in action for one final tournament his fall when they compete in the Historic Triangle Invitational on October 20-21 at Kingmill Resort (River Course) in Williamsburg, Va.
