W&L Wrestling Hosts Jim Crytzer Invitational, Claims Four Podium Finishes

LEXINGTON, Va. — The Washington and Lee University wrestling team delivered a strong showing at the Jim Crytzer Invitational on Saturday, January 4, finishing sixth overall in the team standings with 75.5 points with just 10 wrestlers active. 

The Generals were led by standout performances from Tony Urso (125 lbs) and Tucker Bellanca (197 lbs), who placed first and second in their respective weight classes.

  • Urso, a first-year, dominated the 125-pound bracket with four consecutive wins by fall, including a championship victory over Ian Morales of Marymount College in 2:26. Urso's performance contributed a team-high 23 points.
  • Rookie Bellanca, claimed second place at 197 pounds, securing three wins on the day before falling to Isaiah Manning of Greensboro College in the finals.

Other top performers included:

  • Harper Meacham (157 lbs), a senior, who earned a second-place finish with a 3-1 record, highlighted by a quarterfinal pin over Roanoke College's Lucas Day. 
  • Vincent Ziccardi (133 lbs), who had to bow out early due to injury, placed sixth and contributed 9.5 points to the team score. 

Washington and Lee also saw scoring contributions from Tharun Svetanant (149 lbs), Greg Milone (165 lbs), and Jordan Blaise (157 lbs), who each recorded victories in their brackets.

The team finished sixth out of 11 teams, with Roanoke College winning the invitational with 181 points, followed by Ohio Northern University (174.5) and Shenandoah University (146.0).

  • Anthony Urso (125 lbs): Placed 1st with a 4-0 record, scoring 23.0 team points.
  • Calvin Wiedemer (133 lbs): Finished with a 1-1 record, scoring 1.0 team point.
  • Vincent Ziccardi (133 lbs): Placed 6th with a 2-3 record, scoring 9.5 team points.
  • Tharun Svetanant (149 lbs): Finished with a 2-2 record, scoring 3.5 team points.
  • Jordan Blaise (157 lbs): Finished with a 1-2 record, scoring 2.0 team points.
  • Harper Meacham (157 lbs): Placed 2nd with a 3-1 record, scoring 16.0 team points.
  • Greg Milone (165 lbs): Finished with a 2-2 record, scoring 3.5 team points.
  • Sam Tignor (174 lbs): Finished with a 0-2 record.
  • Zak Silnutzer (184 lbs): Finished with a 0-2 record.
  • Tucker Bellanca (197 lbs): Placed 2nd with a 3-1 record, scoring 17.0 team points.
