Men’s Swimming Clipped by No. 11 Johns Hopkins, 128-115

LEXINGTON, Va. - The Washington and Lee University men's swimming team dropped a tightly contested dual meet on Saturday afternoon, falling to No. 11 Johns Hopkins University, 128-115 inside the W&L Natatorium.


HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MEET
  • The Blue and White fall to 4-2 on the season. W&L claimed six individual events and secured victory in one of the two relays.
  • Dalton Jobe led the team with three individual wins, finishing first in the 200 and 500 freestyle events as well as the 200 individual medley. Jobe recorded a time of 1:41.52 in the 200 freestyle, ranking fourth in the ODAC this season, and a time of 4:46.65 in the 500 freestyle, which ranks sixth in the conference. He concluded his standout performance with a first-place finish in the 200 IM, clocking in at 1:54.89, the fourth-best time in the league this season.
  • Leighton Chapman contributed two wins for the Blue and White, claiming first place in both the 50 and 100 freestyle events. Chapman posted a winning time of 21.15 in the 50 freestyle and 46.48 in the 100 freestyle.
  • Matt Fritz rounded out the individual victories for the Blue and White with a first-place finish in the 100 butterfly. Fritz recorded a time of 50.28, the third-best in the league, to take the win.
  • The 200-yard medley relay team also delivered an impressive performance, recording the second-fastest time in the ODAC this season to secure first place. The team of Charles Byars, Harrison Cerone, Fritz, and Chapman clocked in at 1:32.35, with splits of 24.54, 25.34, 22.05, and 20.42 seconds.

  • The Blue and White return to action next weekend as they travel to Ashland, Va. for a dual meet with Randolph-Macon College. The Generals and Yellow Jackets are set to square off at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18.
