Box Score GRANVILLE, Ohio – The Washington and Lee men's tennis team opened its fall season over the weekend at the Denison Invitational, with players compiling 29 total matches played and 15 combined wins.
DAY ONE HIGHLIGHTS:
Junior
Jake Vo, sophomore
Britton Buckingham and first-year
Ryan Good all went 2-0 in singles play on Saturday to lead the first-day efforts. Vo defeated Christophe Leblanc of Kenyon (6-4, 6-2) and Julio Arisio of Northwestern Ohio (6-4, 7-5), Buckingham downed Arisio (7-5, 5-7, 1-0 (10-7)) and Jacob Lowen of Chicago (2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7)), and Good was the victor over Jack Wong of Chicago (6-3, 6-2) and Eric Zhang of Kenyon (6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (10-8)).
Other day-one winners included seniors
James Kurani and
Evan Erb, sophomore
Sanjheev Rao and first-years
Demetrios Bezianis and
Sahil Arora. Each player picked up one victory on Saturday, with Erb, Rao, Bezianis and Arora all claiming their wins in straight sets.
DAY TWO HIGHLIGHTS:
Buckingham and Good continued their winning ways on Sunday, with Good getting another straight-set win, this time over Sam Goidel of Chicago (7-6 (4), 6-1). Buckingham outlasted Carlos Hernandez of ONUH (5-7, 6-1, 1-0 (10-8)). Bezianis added a second win to his weekend with a 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (11-9) decision over Denison's Chika Nwaozuzu, while sophomore
Heys Parker picked up a 6-1, 2-6, 1-0 (10-8) win over Carnegie Mellon's Jonathan Gu.
TOP PERFORMERS:
Buckingham and Good led the efforts over the weekend with marks of 3-0 each in singles play.
Jake Vo came in next with a 2-1 record in singles, with an additional win in doubles play on Saturday. Vo paired with Denison's Jack Thompson and they topped UNOH's Arisio and Hernandez.
UP NEXT:
The Generals will be back in action on Sunday, September 15, when they host Randolph-Macon at 1:00 p.m. in an early-season ODAC dual match.
