BLACKSBURG, Va
. – The No. 28 Washington and Lee University men's cross country team placed third with 88 points at the Virginia Tech Invitational on Friday.
Sophomore Robert Cooper finished 16th with a time of 18:35.2. Row Sterne and Keaton Rush finished 21st and 22nd, with times of 18:43.3 and 18:44.4, respectively.
Two Generals made their debut on Friday. Sophomore William Dunaway returned after missing his first cross country season due to injury, while first-year Raja Mehendale was the team's sixth finisher in a time of 19:25.1
The Generals placed third behind Virginia Tech, who won with 22 points, and Division II No. 25 Charleston (W.V.), who took second with 60 points. W&L finished ahead of Division II teams Lenoir-Rhyne and Concord, as well as Division I Radford.

The Generals will travel to Terre Haute, Ind., on Saturday, September 21, to compete in the John McNichols. The race will be held at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course, home of the 2024 Division III National Championships.
