Women’s Track and Field Sets Two Program Records at Hopkins/Loyola Invite

BALTIMORE, Md. - The Washington and Lee University women's track and field team set two program records on Saturday at the Johns Hopkins / Loyola Invite while posting 16 top-eight finishes and 13 personal and season bests. 

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MEET
  • Ashley D'Ambrosia broke her own program record which she set at the Hornet Open on Mar. 30, clearing a personal best height of 3.70m (12'-01.50") to finish in first place. D'Ambrosia's mark ranks 17th in DIII this season. 
  • D'Ambrosia, Jordynn Palethorpe, Simmons Lee and Katelyn Gamble teamed up in the 4x100m relay this afternoon. The quartet clocked in a new program record time of 48.51s, overtaking the 2022 squad's time of 48.60s to finish in fourth place. 
  • Amanda Romano turned in a first place finish in the 400m hurdles, crossing the finish line in 1:05.17. Paige Tulenko clocked in a season best time of 1:08.57 to finish in sixth place. Romano and Tulenko also competed together in the 100m hurdles, finishing back-to-back in fifth and sixth place. Romano clocked in a time of 15.31s while Tulenko crossed the finish line in 15.71s. Madelyn Venable clocked in a new season best time of 16.44s to finish in tenth place.
  • In addition to the 4x100m relay, Gamble also raced in the 200m dash on Saturday. Gamble finished in third place as she crossed the finish line in a season best time of 25.28s. Annabelle Sutliff clocked in a new personal best time in the 200m, finishing in 27.26s for a 22nd place finish.
  • Quinlin Zunk was the top finisher for the Blue and White in the discus throw. Zunk turned in a third place finish as she recorded a toss of 35.46m (116'-04.00"). Kaia Beddows was the top finish in the high jump, clearing a personal best height of 1.60m (5'-03.00") to finish in third place. Her mark ranks No. 3 all-time in the program record books. 
  • Bailey Hedgemon finished in fourth place in the hammer throw on Friday afternoon, recording a toss of 44.50m (146'-00.00"). Olivia Berntson and Bella Timmerding finished back-to-back in sixth and seventh place in the hammer throw, Berntson recorded a toss of 38.38m (125'-11.00") while Timmerding posted a mark of 37.10m (121'-08.00"). 
  • Simmons Lee, Lucie Graziano, Jesma Evans and Jordynn Palethorpe teamed up in the 4x400m relay, clocking in a time of 4:07.75 for a fourth place finish. 
  • Brianna Breyault and Sarah Clark both recorded new personal bests in the 5,000m run. Breyault clocked in a time of 19:21.43 to finish in 25th place while Clark crossed the finish line in 19:55.36 to finish in 32nd place.
  • Jesma Evans was the top finisher in the 400m dash on Saturday, clocking in a time of 59.11s to finish in seventh place. Palethorpe turned in a new season best as she crossed the finish line in 1:00.76 to finish in 11th place. 
  • Berntson also competed in the shot put on Saturday, finishing in seventh place with a mark of 11.43m (37'-06.00"). Mackenzie Morante finished in eighth place in the triple jump, leaping 10.50m (34'-05.50"). Lucie Graziano clocked in a new personal best in the 800m as she crossed the finish line in 2:28.17 for a 19th place finish. 
  • Bella Devraj, Kaia Beddows and Madelyn Venable all competed in the long jump this afternoon while all setting new personal bests in the event. Devraj was the top finisher for the Generals, finishing in seventh place with a mark of 5.29m (17'-04.25") which ranked third in the all-time record books. Beddows finished two spots behind her in ninth with a mark of 5.23m (17'-02.00") while Venable finished in 11th with a jump of 5.07m (16'-07.75").

  • Ashley D'Ambrosia, Jordynn Palethorpe, Simmons Lee and Katelyn Gamble set a new program record in the 4x100m relay, overtaking the 2022 squad's time of 48.60s as they clocked in a time of 48.51s to finish in fourth place. 
  • Ashley D'Ambrosia broke her own record in the pole vault which was set on Mar. 30 at the Hornet Open as she cleared a height of 3.70m (12'-01.50"). 
  • Kaia Beddows tied the third-best mark in program history in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.60m (5'-03.00") to finish in third place in the event. 
  • Bella Devraj bested her own mark in the program long jump record books as she leaped 5.29m (17'-04.25) on her way to a seventh place finish. 

UP NEXT
  • The Blue and White head to Bridgewater, Va. for the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Outdoor Championships on Apr. 26-27. The action is set to start at 2 p.m. on Friday with day two set to start at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
