Wrestling Competes at USMC Southeast Futures Tournament, Ziccardi Wins 141 Title

SALEM, Va. - Seven members of the Washington and Lee University wrestling team competed at the Southeast Futures presented by USMC and Roanoke College today and collected six podium appearances highlighted by a Vincent Ziccardi's first place finish in the 141 weight class.

The Generals combined for an overall record of 20-8 on Saturday afternoon for a 71.4 percent winning percentage, the best team finish of the eight programs at Southeast Futures. 

Ziccardi finished 3-0 after posting a fall in his quarterfinal round and taking the next two opponents down in major decisions, 9-0 and 10-2, respectively. 

Isaiah Wilson collected a 3-1 record, his only loss was in the 133 first place match to Ferrum's Walker Bell by a 5-3 decision. Tharun Svetanant (4-1, 141), Colin Bridges (4-1, 149) and J`Mari Lowman (4-1, 174) all won the consolation finals to take third place in their respective weight classes. 

 

NOTES

  • The Blue and White posted a combined 20-8 record on Saturday across the seven participants. 
  • The Generals tallied 11 pins along with four technical falls.
  • The Blue and White totaled 219 match points.
  • Bridges tallied four falls, the most of anyone at the tournament and Lowman recorded three more for W&L to account for seven of the 11 pins.
  •  Bridges' 0:25 pin against Aleksey Svetlichniy (Marymount) and his 0:40 pin over Garrett Hughes (Roanoke College) were the first and third fastest of the day, respectively.
  • Ziccardi tallied 17 team points which was second-most, one point behind Roanoke's Cam Cavins. 
  • Isaiah Wilson recorded 24 points over Mason Rogers (Ferrum) for the second-most points scored in a single match on Saturday.
