INDIANAPOLIS – The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) announced its 2024 Women's Basketball Championship field on Monday afternoon, and Washington and Lee was selected to host first and second round action.
The Generals (26-2) will play host to Vassar (25-2), Catholic (25-2) and Penn State-Behrend (19-7) on Friday and Saturday, March 1-2, while facing Vassar in the first round. Catholic and Penn State Behrend will play each other in the first matchup on Friday, followed by the Generals and Brewers, with each of the winning teams playing for a spot in the Round of 16 on Saturday.
W&L earned the ODAC's automatic qualifier into the championship field by edging out Shenandoah in overtime in the conference title game, 89-80, while Vassar claimed an automatic bid, as well, with a 44-32 win over Skidmore in the Liberty League championship game.
Catholic is the lone at-large school in the four-team pod. The Cardinals made it to the Landmark Conference championship game on Saturday, before falling to No. 7 Scranton, 57-48, in the teams' third meeting of the season. Penn State-Behrend secured the automatic qualifier out of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference with a 73-54 win over La Roche in Saturday's championship.
Live stats and video will be provided for all three games throughout the weekend. Catholic and PSU-Behrend will tip-off on Friday at 5:00 p.m., followed by W&L and Vassar at 7:30 p.m. Saturday's Round of 32 game will get underway at 7:15 p.m.
