Stack Wins 285 at Racich Rumble, W&L Takes Second

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The Washington and Lee University wrestling team put together another strong performance in the second tournament of the 2024-25 season with a second-place finish at the Racich Rumble.  

Leading the team, Carter Stack took first place in the 285-lbs weight class. Colin Bridges (157 lbs) and Mark Troni (165 lbs) each earned second place finishes. Jack McCusker placed 4th in the 184-lbs category, while Tony Urso (125 lbs), Calvin Wiedemer (133 lbs), Harris Foad (157 lbs), and Jacob Wright (174 lbs) each secured fifth place. Additionally, Ben Rubin rounded out the podium finishes for W&L, taking sixth place at 125 lbs.

The first-year delivered an exceptional performance in the 285-lbs weight class, dominating each of his matches with four consecutive tech fall victories, defeating opponents from Misericordia, Elizabethtown, and West Chester with three commanding 15-0 shutouts and an 18-1 score.

As a team, W&L placed second in the final standings at the Racich Rumble, earning 128.5 points. No.15 New York University claimed first place with 158.5 points, while Messiah College took third with 119 points.

Up next, The Generals will open up ODAC duals with No. 15 Roanoke College on November 16 at 7 p.m. in Lexington.

TOP TEAM FINISHES

  • 1st Place: NYU - 158.5 points with four individual champions, one runner-up, and notable placings in third, fourth, and sixth.
  • 2nd Place: W&L - 128.5 points, highlighted by one individual champion, two runner-up finishes, and consistent top-six finishes with four in fifth place and one in sixth.
  • 3rd Place: Messiah - 119 points, with one champion, two runner-ups, and strong performances in third and fourth places.

MEDAL FINISHES

  • 157 lbs Final: Colin Bridges (W&L) vs. Cooper Pontelandolfo (NYU) Colin Bridges faced off against NYU's Cooper Pontelandolfo in the 157-lbs final. Pontelandolfo dominated with a technical fall, winning 15-0 in just 1:36, securing the title over Bridges. 
  • 165 lbs Final: Mark Troni (W&L) vs. Keegan Demarest (Messiah) In the 165-lbs final, Mark Troni battled Messiah's Keegan Demarest. Demarest edged out Troni with a 6-2 decision, taking the championship while Troni finished as runner-up.
  • 285 lbs Final: Carter Stack (W&L) vs. Shannon Clark (Misericordia) Carter Stack delivered an impressive performance in the 285-lbs final, winning by technical fall over Misericordia's Shannon Clark with a decisive 15-0 score in 5:45, earning the championship title for W&L.
  • 3rd Place - 184 lbs: Jack McCusker (W&L) vs. Ryder Slayton (Messiah) Jack McCusker earned 3rd place in the 184-lbs weight class with a medical forfeit win over Ryder Slayton of Messiah, securing a podium finish for W&L.
  • 5th Place - 125 lbs: Tony Urso (W&L) vs. Ben Rubin (W&L) Tony Urso claimed 5th place in the 125-lbs category through a no-contest match and Ben Rubin took 6th. 
  • 5th Place - 125 lbs: Calvin Wiedemer (W&L) vs. Charlie Pavis (WPI) In the 133-lbs 5th place match, Wiedemer emerged victorious by fall over Charlie Pavis of WPI at the 4:38 mark, solidifying his placement on the podium.
  • 5th Place - 157 lbs: Harris Foad (W&L) vs. Dante Monaco (Unattached) Foad earned 5th place in the 157-lbs category with a no-contest match.
  • 5th Place - 174 lbs: Jacob Wright (W&L) vs. Ian Flanagan (Stevens Tech) Jacob Wright clinched 5th place in the 174-lbs weight class with a hard-fought 12-7 decision victory over Ian Flanagan of Stevens Tech.
