SANDESTIN, Fla. – The 14th-ranked Washington and Lee University women's golf team finished in 7th place at the 2024 Golfweek October Classic on Tuesday afternoon. 

The Generals had put up a strong and consistent performance on the par-72, 5,611-yard course. W&L finished seventh with a total score of 909 (+45) and opened with rounds of 302 and 305 before matching their opening round with a 302 (+14) on the final day. Despite a minor drop in position on the last day, W&L managed to finish ahead of higher-ranked WGCA opponents St. Catherine's and Centre College.

Player Highlights

• Ella Wong was the top finisher for the Generals with a scorecard of 77-75-74--226 (+10) and finished 31st overall in a field of 124 players. 
• Laetitia Roegner finished 12 strokes over par and tied for 39th place finishing 78-74-76--228.
• Julia Haetzel (76-81-74--231, +15), An Shelmire (73-80-78--231, +15) and Marcella Mercer (76-76-79--231, +15) finished the tournament tied for 53rd place. Haetzel rose nine slots on the individual leaderboard from 62nd place on Monday

By the Numbers

• On Par 3s, W&L averaged 3.18 (+11), placing them in the middle of the field.
• On Par 4s, the team averaged 4.32 (+48), which was challenging but kept them competitive.
• On Par 5s, W&L averaged 5.13 (+8), maintaining a solid stance against other teams.
• The Generals were one of the top teams for total pars, finishing with 182, ranking them third overall.
• W&L accumulated 18 birdies. Roegner and Wong both recorded seven birdies, leading the team.
• Both Mercer and Wong had solid performances on Par 3s, averaging 3.08 (+1).
• On Par 5s, Shelmire managed to keep an even score.
• Haetzel and Shelmire contributed with three birdies each
• Zimo Li (Emory University) led the the field from start to finish and checked in with a final scorecard of 210 (-6), four strokes better than the runner up, Sydney Kuo (Washington U. - St. Louis).

W&L wrapped up the fall slate and will resume their season in the spring.
