LEXINGTON, Va. - The Washington and Lee University women's volleyball team rolled to a pair of straight set wins over Maryville College and Susquehanna University on Friday night to improve to 6-0 for the second time in the last four seasons.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED vs MARYVILLE
- The Generals jumped out to a 5-2 lead early in the first set after multiple errors by the Scots of Maryville.Â
- After Maryville narrowed the Generals lead, W&L took a 13-10 lead with kills by Sydney Heifner and Riley Debiec.Â
- Both teams went back and forth until Avery Myers kicked off a four point stretch as she finished off an Allie Buchholz assist before McKenna Cook found Heifner for her third kill of the set.Â
- W&L would close out the opening frame as Grace Mitchener recorded a service ace to give the Blue and White a 25-17 set winÂ
- The second set kicked off with both teams trading points until Heifner gave the Generals a 11-7 lead with two kills during their three-point stretch.Â
- W&L broke the set wide open as Heifner recorded five service aces while Debiec had three kills to give the Generals a 20-9 lead.Â
- Diane Pierre-Louis put the Generals up 24-11 as she finished off a Buchholz assist before a Hannah Kammer attack error gave W&L a 25-12 win in the second set.Â
- A Buchholz service ace and a Heifner kill helped the Generals take a 3-0 lead in the third set. After conceding their first point of the match, W&L rattled off five straight points as Debiec recorded two kills to put the Blue and White up 8-1.Â
- The Scots started to find some momentum as Caleigh Carruthers recorded two kills while Kenzie Brewster had one in their three-run stretch to cut the Generals lead to 19-12.Â
- Following kills by Lillie Holcomb and Debiec, the Generals would sweep the Scots as Caleigh Carruthers service sailed out of bounds.Â
W&L GAMES NOTES
- The Generals had 30 kills on 91 total attacks for a .231 hitting percentage while outsourcing the Scots 47-30.Â
- W&L had ten service aces compared to the Scots' one.Â
- Heifner led all players with 11 kills, she attempted 25 attacks for a .360 hitting percentage. Heifner also led all players with six service aces while digging out eight Scot attacks.Â
- Buchholz led all players with 21 assists while finishing second in digs with ten.Â
- Cook recorded a team-high 13 digs in three sets of action while picking up one service ace and dishing out three assists.Â
- Ryan Taylor led all players with four blocks, three blocks were assists while she had one solo block.Â
MARYVILLE GAME NOTES
- The Scots recorded 26 kills on 104 total attempts. Â
- Maryville out dug the Generals 47-43 in the three sets of action.Â
- Addie Smith led the Scots with six kills on 21 total attempts for a .048 hitting percentage.Â
- Dakota Vaiese led Maryville with thirteen assists while digging out six General attacksÂ
- Ally Sokolow led all players with 17 digs in three sets of action while Hannah Kammer ranked second in digs with eight.Â

HOW IT HAPPENED vs SUSQUEHANNA
- Susquehanna found themselves with a 4-2 lead over the Generals but Debiec kicked off a five point swing as she finished off a Buchholz assist to give W&L a 7-4 lead.Â
- Both teams went back and forth until Maddie Weller caught the River Hawks sleeping on a serve which gave the Generals a 12-7 lead.Â
- Taylor and Debiec extended W&L's lead to seven as they both recorded kills in another Generals three point stretch last in the first set.Â
- The Blue and White closed out the first frame as Buchholz and Heifner connected to give the Generals a 25-15 win.Â
- The River Hawks jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the second half but the Generals cut the lead to one with kills from Buchholz and Debic.Â
- After the River Hawks jumped back out to a two point lead, the Generals used a four point swing to retake the lead as Avery Myers recorded a kill and Debiec caught the River Hawks sleeping as her serve fell to the court.Â
- Susquehanna found themselves ahead 18-17 as Ryan Rorls picked up two kills while Keira Roach finished off a Emily Kowalski assist to give the visitors the lead.Â
- Back-to-back kills from Heifner and Cook put the Generals just two points away from a set two win but Emily Kowalski recorded a kill to bring the score to 23-22 in favor of the Generals.Â
- Following a service error by the River Hawks, Grace Mitchener subbed into the game and delivered the dagger as her serve hit the floor to give the Generals a 25-22 win in the second frame.Â
- The Generals got control early in the third set as they went on a seven point swing which featured three kills from Debiec, a kill from Myer and a service ace from Heifner.Â
- The River Hawks cut the lead to five but Debiec and Emery Goerig put the Generals up 11-3 with kills of their own.Â
- Susquehanna tried to claw back but Heifner's two kills gave W&L a comfortable 19-9 lead.
- Following a Myers kill and a River Hawks attack kill, Weller stepped up to serve and once again caught Susquehanna sleeping to give the Generals a 25-13 win.Â
W&L GAMES NOTES
- W&L has jumped out to a 6-0 record for the second time in the last four seasons while only conceding one set this season so far.Â
- The Generals recorded 40 kills on 117 total attempts for a .239 hitting percentage.Â
- Debiec led all players with 13 kills, she had 21 total attempts for a season-best .355 hitting percentage. Heifner followed shortly behind with 11 kills on 35 attempts for a .200 hitting percentage.Â
- Buchholz led the Generals with 25 assists while digging out a team-high 12 attacks. Cook ranked second on the Generals with seven assists while recording nine digs.Â
- Penelope Quiles posted a season-high 12 digs in her three sets of action.Â
SUSQUEHANNA GAME NOTES
- Emily Kowalski led Susquehanna with 12 kills on 30 attempts for a .300 hitting percentage. She also led all players with 15 digs.Â
- Brie Livezey recorded seven kills and four digs in three sets of action.Â
- Keira Roach led all players with 28 assists while adding a service ace.Â
TOP PERFORMERS
- Debiec finished the day with a team-high 23 kills on 54 attempts for a .425 hitting percentage. Heifner recorded 22 kills on 60 attempts for a .366 hitting percentage.Â
- Buchholz recorded her third straight double-double as she dished out 21 assists and recorded ten digs against Maryville while digging out 12 attacks and recording 25 assists against Susquehanna.Â
- Myers posted a season-high seven kills against Susquehanna while having ten over both matches.Â
