Men's Cross Country Posts Strong Showing at Paul Short Invitational

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Washington and Lee University men's cross country team competed at the Leigh University Paul Short Invitational on Saturday afternoon and placed 11th in a highly competitive, 47-team, field for the Brown 8k. 

The Generals finished with 420 points and were the fourth Division III team in the final standings. The Blue and White finished behind No. 19 Middlebury (6th place), No. 31 New York (8th place) and No. 21 Emory (10th place). W&L beat No. 16 Haverford (16th place) for the first time in program history with today's performance. 

SCORING SEVEN

  • Row Sterne paced the Generals and finished 34th overall in a time of 25:37.6.
  • Keaton Rush took 71st in 25:59.9 and moved up 16 spots during the last split. 
  • Chris Ruiz rose 22 positions in the last leg and finished in a time of 26:06.1 to place 81st.
  • Jackson Kodenski placed 95th with a 26:12.6 mark. 
  • Thomas Franklin finished 18 seconds later and took 139th. 
  • Jackson Jacobs placed 156th after crossing the finish line in 26:40.4
  • Josh Fingerhut rounded out the scoring seven with 201 points in a time of 27:12.3 

THE FIELD

  • Today's event was the largest field the Generals have participated in this year; 408 individuals from 47 institutions ran in the Brown 8k. 
  • Columbia's Jacob Ireland won the individual title with a time of 24:36.8 and ran a split of 5:01.6.
  • Central Connecticut won the team scoring with 94 points (2, 7, 21, 28, 36).

The Blue and White will race at the Roanoke XC Invitation on Friday, October 13 in Salem, Va. The Generals will get a chance to preview the 2023 ODAC Championships course.
