W&L closes out Kenyon Invitational with strong second day

GAMBIER, Ohio – Five different players picked up singles wins and all four doubles teams in action on Sunday won at least one match for the 36th-ranked Washington and Lee men's tennis team, as the Generals closed out the two-day Kenyon Invitational.
 
HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE DAY:
Out of the five players to win in singles, four of them did not lose. Juniors Evan Erb and Eli Hirshberg, as well as first-years Heys Parker and Sanjheev Rao, all earned straight-set wins, with Erb needing a second-set tiebreak to down Ethan Green of Denison, 6-3, 7-6. Hirshberg and Rao cruised by respective 6-3, 6-2 and 6-0, 6-3 scores, with Parker defeating Carnegie Mellon's Theodore Gershon, 6-2, 7-5.
 
Sophomore Jake Vo went 1-1 on the day, battling back against Case Western Reserve's Jackson Schueltze to upend the Spartan, 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (12-10). Vo's loss came by a 6-3, 6-2 decision against Nadeem Jones of Denison.
 
Parker teamed up with senior Josh Rassin in doubles play, and the pair led the Blue and White with a 2-0 record. They blew past Jake Chilcote and Joshua Mammen of Otterbein, 6-1, and fought off Derek Shiffer and Ben Martin (CWRU) by a 7-6 final.
 
The remaining doubles teams were Hirshberg with Erb, Rao with senior Connor Coleman and sophomores Mateo Moss and Rider Yeaman. Hirshberg and Erb had the most comfortable win, a 6-1 victory over Akshay Joshi and Daniel Kong (Carnegie Mellon). Moss and Yeaman surrendered four games before putting Justin Yi and Jonathan Gu (Carnegie Mellon) away, 6-4, while Rao and Coleman edged Logan Langovsky and Grant Sarnowski (John Carroll), 7-6.
 
UP NEXT:
The Generals will be back in action on Wednesday, September 27, for a pair of ODAC matches. W&L will split the squad between 4:00 p.m. starts at home against Randolph and on the road against Randolph-Macon.
