No. 34 Men's Cross Country Takes Third at CNU

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The No. 34 Washington and Lee University men's cross country team took third at the Christopher Newport University Cross Country Invitational's 8,000 meter event on Friday night. 

The Generals collected 72 points and finished as the top non-DI team in the results ahead of Salisbury's 120 score in fourth place. W&L scored 8-10-17-18-19-(23)-(25) and finished behind Division I programs George Mason University (23 points) and Virginia Commonwealth University (50 points). 

SCORING SEVEN

  • Row Sterne, the second DIII athlete to cross the finish line, paced the Generals and finished 13th overall in a time of 25:31.3. 
  • Finishing six seconds later, at 25:37.4, Chris Ruiz took 16th place.
  • First-years Thomas Franklin and Jackson Kodenski finished 24th and 26th, respectively. Franklin posted a time of 25:53.0 and Kodenski ran a 26:01.3
  • Rounding out the top five finishers for W&L, Josh Fingerhut ran the 8k in a time of 26:24.8 to finish 32nd overall. 
  • Jackson Jacobs and Henry Haden were sixth and seventh in the scoring lineup, respectively. Jacobs took 37th in a time of 26:37.6 and Haden placed 41st in 26:41.7. 

THE FIELD

  • George Mason's Mason Love finished in a time of 24:27.1 to claim the individual title.
  • Eastern Mennonite's Bellamy Immanuel took 7th in a time of 25:11.7; he was the top DIII finisher. 
  • The ODAC had a strong presence in Newport News this evening. W&L Finished ahead of  Bridgewater (6th/176 points), Eastern Mennonite (7th/212 points), Virginia Wesleyan (9th/274 points) and Randolph. 
  • The field included 125 individuals and 12 scoring teams.
