LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee men's tennis team dropped a 5-4 match to visiting Division I UNC-Greensboro on Tuesday afternoon.
The Generals (6-4) claimed wins across all three doubles matches to open the match. Sophomore
Evan Erb (St. Louis, Mo. / MICDS) and senior
Evan Brady (Glen Head, N.Y. / Chaminade) had the largest margin of victory, with an 8-5 win at No. 1 over David Flisberg and John Gabelic.
Sophomores
Will Kistler (Hilton Head, S.C. / Laurel Springs School) and
Eli Hirshberg (Alpharetta, Ga. / Johns Creek) won by an 8-6 score at No. 2, while sophomore
James Kurani (Charlotte, N.C. / Providence Day) and junior
Connor Coleman (Birmingham, Ala. / Briarwood Christian) downed Tymofiy Khrystyuk and Andrew Black, 8-7 (7-2), at No. 3.
First-year
Rider Yeaman (Dallas, Texas / Episcopal School of Dallas) was responsible for the lone singles win for the Blue and White, as he defeated Wyatt Cannon, 0-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5), at No. 6. Erb came closest to earning a fifth point for W&L, but he ultimately fell at No. 1 by a 7-5, 2-6, 6-3 score to Flisberg. The Spartans (2-8) won all four other singles matches in straight sets.
The Generals will be back in action on Friday when they travel to 18th-ranked Mary Washington for a 4:00 pm match.
