Men's Basketball Wins Seventh Straight, 92-81 at Randolph

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Washington and Lee University men's basketball team earned a road decision at Randolph College with a 92-81 Old Dominion Athletic Conference win on Wednesday night.

With their seventh straight victory, all conference contests, the Generals improved to a 15-6 record overall and and 8-4 in conference play after the WildCats (5-16, 1-11 ODAC) started off the scoring with a 5-0 run.

The Blue and White opened up the game shooting five consecutive jumpers from long range, the team missed on the first three attempts but Sam Wise (Winchester, Va. / Handley) and Jack Lewis (Rockville, Md. / Sidwell Friends) responded with makes on the next two tries to knot up the game 6-6 at 16:52.

That was the only tied score for the night as the squads traded scoreless possessions for the next two minutes before a John Loughlin (Alexandria, Va. / Episcopal) three-pointer put W&L ahead for good. The three consecutive makes from behind the arc were the first of nine total threes for W&L in the road win.

A RAND buzzer-beater from the opposite key to close out the first half had the scoreboard read 46-34 in favor of W&L as the two teams split into their locker rooms.

An 11-2 run in the middle of the second stanza pushed the Generals ahead by 21. Richie Manigault (Stewartsville, N.J. / Phillipsburg)  scored the initial eight points of the stretch and Jack d'Entremont (Bryn Mawr, Pa. / Radnor) drained a three to wrap up the run for the largest lead of the night 68-47 at 11:17.

At the 5:05 mark, the Cats capped an 11-0 run with a Kyle Ferguson field goal from behind the arc and brought the home team back within five of W&L, 77-72.

The Generals were able to hold Randolph off with a positive-trending offense and a momentum swing. The Blue and White made four of their last five field goal attempts. Individually Wise ended the night perfect on his last four attempts with Robert DiSibio (Sandy Hook, Conn. / Newtown) finishing with four makes on his last five shots. Lewis and d'Entremont finished 3-of-4 in their last field goal and three-pointer attempts, respectively.

D'Entremont led the Generals' scoring efforts with 21 points and two assists, he grabbed seven boards and collected a pair of steals on defense.

Manigault recorded a double-double, his second of the season after he recorded a 27 point, 10 rebound outing at Averett on January 7. Manigault grabbed a personal season-high 11 boards along with 14 points in Wednesday's win.

DiSibio and Wise ended in double-digits with 18 and 12 points, respectively.

The team shot 54.5 percent from the field (30-of-55) and benefited from 23 made free throws in 29 trips to the line (79.3 percent).

W&L had a slight edge on the glass, 39-36 over Randolph, and Danny Bickley led all scorers with 27 points for the Cats.

The Generals host Virginia Wesleyan University on Saturday, February 4 at 2 p.m.
