Wrestling Opens Tournament Slate with Second-place Showing at Ursinus

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The Washington and Lee University wrestling team placed second with a score of 137 points at the Racich Rumble hosted by Ursinus University on Saturday. 

The Generals opened up their tournament slate with ten podium finishes (top-6) and a win at the 149 weight class from sophomore Evan Lindner.

PODIUM FINISHERS 

  • 149 | Evan Lindner (1st place) won by major decision (14-4) over Levi Snyder (Messiah)
  • 184 | Jack McCusker (2nd place) lost by major decision (19-6) to Nicky Bell (NYU)
  • 174 | Harrison Kelly (2nd place) lost by technical fall (15-0) to Jason Geyer (NYU)
  • 141 | Skyler Hickman (3rd place) won by decision (9-3) over Harris Foad (W&L)
  • 157 | Nic Zamaloff (3rd place) won by decision (8-7) over Killian Foy (NYU)
  • 125 | David Rubin (3rd place) won be decision (7-6) to Michael Adams (Ursinus)
  • 285 | John Ryan Sedovy (4th place) lost by major decision (14-3) to Dylan Waller (Elizabethtown)
  • 197 | John Santowski (4th place) lost by fall (1:07) to Micah Kunkle (Messiah)
  • 141 | Harris Foad (4th place) lost by decision (9-3) to Skyler Hickman (W&L)
  • 141 | Vincent Ziccardi (5th place) won by forfeit over Malachi Harvey (Messiah)

NOTES

  • The Blue and White posted a combined 52-32 record over the day for a 61.9 winning percentage. 
  • W&L's second place finish was behind No. 15 New York University's 179.5 points. Wrestlers from NYU were the top-finishers in five different weight classes and 13 Violets placed on the podium.
  • The Generals finished ahead of No. 6 Alvernia's 117 points which was good for fourth place. AU claimed three first-place finishes. 
  • W&L recorded 12 wins by fall and eight by technical fall. 
  • Of the 52 victories today, 21 of the Generals' wins were by decision and nine were by major decision. 
  • Defensively W&L only gave up five pins and five technical falls.

The Generals will compete next weekend at the Scotty Wood Duals hosted by Muhlenberg College on November 18. W&L's opponents will be published before the 9 a.m. start time.
