Women’s Volleyball Drops ODAC Match at Randolph-Macon

ASHLAND, Va. - Continuing Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play with a trip to Ashland, Va., the Washington and Lee University women's volleyball team fell in straight sets to Randolph-Macon College on Wednesday night. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

Set One | 25-18 RMC
  • The Generals found themselves with a 3-1 lead after Alyssah McGuire, Grace Mitchener, and Emery Goerig each recorded kills. 
  • Randolph-Macon went on a 7-1 run to take a 13-7 lead after Ashlyn Knott, Lola Nolasco and Grace Parker each recorded kills. 
  • W&L used a 6-1 run to cut the Yellow Jackets lead to 17-15 as Avery Myers accounted for four of the six points to bring the Generals within two. 
  • Megan Bost of RMC recorded the final four kills of the set as the Yellow Jackets took the opening frame 25-18. 
  • Grace Parker, Megan Bost and Ashlyn Knott of Randolph-Macon and Myers of W&L led the set with five kills each. Knott led the set with a .556 hitting percentage while Bost finished with a .444 percentage. 
  • Allie Buchholz dished out a set-high 11 assists on 28 attempts for a .393 percentage. Milly Mach of RMC had a .474 setting percentage as she dished out nine assists on 19 attempts. 
  • Michener led all players with eight digs while Maddy DeCandido of RMC dug out five attacks. 

Set Two | 25-20 RMC 
  • After falling behind 3-1, Buchholz found Goerig and Myers for two kills to help the Generals take a 4-3 lead early in the set. 
  • Grace Parker finished off a Kaitlyn Kaplan set to knot the set at 12 before Myers kicked off a four point swing for the Generals to give the Blue and White a 16-12 lead. 
  • That lead quickly faded away as back-to-back kills from Parker and a Megan Bost kill evened the scoring. 
  • Three-straight kills from Bost boosted the Yellow Jackets to an 8-2 run which gave them a 25-20 win in the second frame. 
  • Parker and Bost of RMC and Myers of W&L led the set with five kills each once again. Bost boasted a .625 hitting percentage during her second set of action while Parker posted a .273 hitting percentage. 
  • Milly Mach of Randolph-Macon dished out a set-high nine assists on 18 attempts for a .500 setting percentage. Buchholz dished out six assists on 23 attempts for a .261 percentage. 
  • Parker dug out a set-high six attacks while DeCandido of RMC and Mitchener and Myers of W&L dug out four attacks each. 

Set Three | 25-11 RMC 
  • The Yellow Jackets used four attack errors and kills from Grace Parker and Megan Bost to take an early 7-2 lead. 
  • After the Generals cut the lead to 10-7, RMC went on the offensive as five different Yellow Jackets recorded kills to take a 16-7 lead. 
  • Goerig finished off a Buchholz assist to bring the score to 16-8 in favor of RMC but the Yellow Jackets took a comfortable 21-8 lead as Mia Zazzero, Boat and Parker each recorded kills. 
  • After two attack errors from Grace Parker, Lexie Stone finished off a Turi Trainor assist to cut the RMC lead to ten. 
  • Bost finished off a Milly Mach assist to take the third set 25-11 while handing the Generals their second-straight loss. 
  • Parker and Ashlyn Knott led all players with four kills while Megan Bost recorded three kills on seven attempts for a .429 hitting percentage. Riley Debiec led the Generals with two kills on three attempts for a .667 percentage. 
  • Milly Mach led all players with eight assists on 20 attempts for a .400 setting percentage while Kaitlyn Kaplan dished out six assists. Buchholz dished out three assists on 17 attempts for a .176 setting percentage. 
  • Maddy DeCandido of RMC led all players with nine digs while Buchholz and Penelope Quiles led the Generals with four digs each. 

W&L GAME NOTES
  • W&L falls to 12-4 on the season and 4-2 in ODAC play. The Generals have not lost back-to-back conference games since 2019. 
  • The Blue and White recorded 29 kills on 107 attempts for a season-low .112 hitting percentage.

RANDOLPH-MACON GAME NOTES
  • Randolph-Macon improves to 12-4 on the season while winning their fourth straight conference game to move to 7-1 in ODAC play.
  • RMC recorded 51 kills on 118 attempts for a season-high .347 hitting percentage. The Yellow Jackets had a set-high .400 hitting percentage in the third set. 
  • The Yellow Jackets led all team categories including kills (51), assists (50) and digs (52). RMC also recorded the only four service aces of the match.  

TOP PERFORMERS
  • Grace Parker of RMC led all players with 14 kills on 39 attempts for a .231 hitting percentage while Megan Bost recorded 13 kills and Ashlyn Knott had 12.
  • Myers led the Generals with ten kills on 37 attempts for a .108 hitting percentage. Goerig recorded six kills during her three sets of action. 
  • Milly Mach led all players with 26 assists on 57 attempts for a .456 setting percentage while Kaitlyn Kaplan also dished out 19 assists for the Yellow Jackets. Buchholz led the Generals with 20 assists on 68 attempts for a .294 setting percentage. 
  • Maddy DeCandido led the match with 18 digs while Mitchener dug out a team-high 13 attacks for the Generals.
    Mia Zazzero recorded a match-high three blocks while Goerig led the Generals with two blocks. 

UP NEXT
  • The Generals head to Virginia Beach on Saturday for a tri-match at Virginia Wesleyan University. W&L takes on the Marlins at 11 a.m. before battling with Sea Gulls of Salisbury University at 1:30 p.m.
