ROANOKE, Va. - The Washington and Lee University volleyball team swept Hollins University in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action on Wednesday night, 25-12, 25-10, 25-9.
The Generals (8-7, 5-0 ODAC) bounced back from a tough Tuesday night matchup with a three set series over HU (3-14, 0-6) notching an impressive .391 attacking percentage with 32 ills against just five errors.
In the process of the victory, senior libero, Caroline Guard (Naperville, Ill. Benet Academy) rewrote the program's record book for all-time digs. Gard, who was just seven digs shy coming into tonight's match, made 13 digs which brought her career total to 1,563 in just 95 matches played since 2019.
On the other side of the net, the Blue and White benefited from 12 service aces led by Guard with four. Outside hitters Sydney Heifner (Nashville, Tenn. / Harpeth Hall) and Avery Myers (New York, N.Y. / Poly Prep Country Day) each recorded three from the line as well. Riley Debiec(Potomac, Md. / Bishop O'Connell) added a pair of her own.
Heifner recorded a game-high 13 kills and was in double-digits for the thirteenth time this year.
First-year Emery Goerig (College Station, Texas / College Station) led the team in blocks with seven and sophomore Allie Buchholz (Portland, Ore. Jesuit) had an assist in 12 of the Blue and White's kills. Senior setter Ashley Webb (Thousand Oaks, Calif. / Westlake) added 10 assists.
Fourteen women saw action on the court tonight in the 27th straight win over Hollins.
The team returns to the court on Friday, September 30 for a 7 p.m. ODAC contest at Guilford College and will then head to Averett on Saturday for a noon matchup over the new conference members.
W&L squared off with Averett last year and fell in three straight series in Danville (25-19, 25-17, 27-25).
