W&L Women's Golf Wins Fourth Straight ODAC Championship

GLEN ALLEN, Va. – The 10th-ranked Washington and Lee women's golf team set an ODAC Championship scoring record for the second time in three rounds, claiming the 2022 conference title on Tuesday at the Dominion Club.

W&L held a 14-stroke lead after the first day of the championship when it posted a championship record score of 301.  The lead swelled to 17 strokes after a 308 in round two, while Tuesday's round of 300 lowered the championship record and gave the Blue & White the championship by 24 strokes over the University of Lynchburg.  The Generals' three-day tally of 301-308-300—909 (+45) also set a program record for the lowest 54-hole scoring total, eclipsing the 910 recorded at the Jekyll Island Collegiate on March 18-20 of this year.

The Hornets fired a three-day score of 319-307-308—933 (+69) to place second in the league championship standings, while Bridgewater tallied a 315-317-313—945 (+81) to finish third.  Sweet Briar (1132), Shenandoah (1144) and Randolph-Macon (1145) rounded out the team standings.

Lynchburg's Emily Brubaker shot even-par for the final round to maintain her lead and claim individual medalist honors.  She finished with a +4 score of 76-72-72—220.

All five of the W&L players finished among the Top 10, with junior Megan Kanaby (Chapel Hill, N.C. / Cardinal Gibbons) finishing second overall out of the 33 golfers in the event with a +8 score of 75-75-74—224.  Her total tied for the third-lowest 54-hole tally in program history.

First-year An Shelmire (Dallas, Texas / Highland Park) placed fourth overall with a 77-76-75—228 (+12) and classmate Laetitia Roegner (Greenwich, Conn. / IMG Academy) placed seventh with a +18 score of 77-81-76—234.

First-year Marcella Mercer (Bigfork, Montana / Flathead) tied for eighth overall with a 72-79-84—235 (+19) and senior Savannah Johnson (Owens Cross Roads, Ala. / Huntsville) finished in a tie for 10th at her final ODAC Championship, posting an 84-78-75—237 (+21).

With the win, W&L earns the ODAC's automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship, which will be held on May 10-13 at the Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston, Texas.
