LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee Michael F. Walsh Director of Athletics Jan Hathorn has announced that a record 372 Washington and Lee student-athletes have received the Scholar-Athlete Award after compiling a grade-point average (GPA) of at least 3.50 during the recently completed fall term.

The former high mark was 369 scholar-athletes set during the 2020 winter term.  The students are all members of W&L athletic teams, and all 24 teams produced a cumulative team GPA of 3.36 or better led by the women's cross country team, who combined for a 3.76 team GPA to barely eclipse the 3.75 posted by the field hockey team.  The top men's team GPA was 3.61. which was achieved by the men's tennis team.

In addition to the record number of scholar-athletes, there was also a record number of individuals accumulating a perfect 4.0 grade-point average.  All told, 69 students earned a perfect GPA to better the high of 68 students with a 4.0, also set during the winter of 2020.
