LEXINGTON, Va. – The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) will be holding its annual women's golf championship for three rounds starting on April 24 and running through April 26. The event will be held at the
Dominion Club in Glen Allen, Va.
Six teams will compete for the championship, which has been held eight times since the conference began sponsoring women's golf as a varsity sport in 2013. In that time, the Generals have claimed four titles, including each of the last three.
Last year, Washington and Lee won the tournament by 14 strokes over the University of Lynchburg, with then sophomore
Megan Kanaby (Chapel Hill, N.C. / Cardinal Gibbons) claiming the individual title with a score of 73-76—149 (+5). She finished eight strokes better than Emily Erickson of Lynchburg.
The Generals will once again be the favorite to seize the ODAC crown after W&L posted a league-best 308.4 team scoring average over 13 rounds played. The Blue & White is currently ranked 10th in the Golfstat Division III rankings. Lynchburg posted a 318.9 scoring average across 15 rounds and checks in at No. 31 in the Golfstat national rankings. Bridgewater is just outside the Top 50 of the DIII rankings at No. 51 after producing a 323.3 team scoring average. Shenandoah (371.3), Sweet Briar (374.4) and Randolph-Macon (392.6) round out the teams in the field.
Individually, Lynchburg's Emily Brubaker boasts the top scoring average in the conference, posting a 75.0 average across 15 rounds played. However, it is Washington and Lee first-year
Laetitia Roegner (Greenwich, Conn. / IMG Academy) that claims the league's best individual Golfstat ranking, checking in at No. 36 nationally. Roegner ranks fifth in the ODAC for scoring average, notching a 78.4 average across 10 rounds played.
Kanaby ranks second in the ODAC in scoring average (76.0) and she is the 38th-ranked player in the Golfstat rankings after capturing the ODAC Player of the Year award following each of her first two seasons. She also earned First Team All-America laurels in 2021.
Brubaker ranks 37th overall as the only non-W&L player in the ODAC among the Golfstat Top 100 Division III players. Overall, W&L claims five players in the Golfstat Top 100. First-year
An Shelmire (Dallas, Texas / Highland Park) is ranked 42nd, classmate
Marcella Mercer (Bigfork, Montana / Flathead) is ranked 56th and senior
