LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee baseball team put up a season-high 22 runs on Thursday in a 22-7 home win over Mary Baldwin.
The 22 runs for the Generals (15-14) marked the most scored in a game since a 26-1 win over Roanoke on March 12, 2011. The Fighting Squirrels fall to 7-25 overall with the loss.
W&L scored five runs in the first inning and eight in the second to open a quick 13-0 lead. Junior left fielder
Zach Perkins (Vienna, Va. / James Madison) drove in three of the runs on three hits, including an RBI triple and a two-run double, both of which came in the second inning.
Sophomore designated hitter
Julian Domenech (New York, N.Y. / Hunter College) had a two-run single in the first, and junior center fielder
Mitchell Salvino (Charlotte, N.C. / Charlotte Catholic) capped off the multi-RBI knocks in the first two innings with a three-run triple in the second.
Mary Baldwin scored the next five runs of the game across the third and fourth innings, but the Generals put up another seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to extend their lead to 20-5. The Fighting Squirrels scored their final two runs in the sixth and seventh innings on a pair of sacrifice flies. The Generals added their last two runs in the bottom of the sixth on a double by first-year left fielder
Frankie Maloof (Atlanta, Ga. / St. Pius X Catholic) and a sac fly by sophomore catcher

Perkins finished 3-for-3 with a single, double, triple, three RBI and two runs, while sophomore shortstop
Ethan Zulueta (Matthews, N.C. / Weddington) tallied a team-high four hits on the day, to go along with two RBI and three runs scored. First-year third baseman
Mike Carpenter (Aurora, Ohio / Aurora) tallied three hits, Domenech drove in a team-best four runs and sophomore second baseman
Jacob Jackson (Norfolk, Va. / Maury) scored five times. Jackon's five runs are tied for the second most in a game in program history and the first occurrence since Chadwick Feeley '19 on February 16, 2019.
First-year right-hander
Jack Cope (Chevy Chase, Md. / Landon School) (2-4) earned the win after tossing 3.1 innings of relief to finish the game. He allowed two runs on five hits. First-year
Jimmy Horvath (Harrison, N.Y. / Harrison) started and worked the first 3.2 frames, while allowing four earned runs.
Junior left fielder Noah Kessler tallied a Mary Baldwin-high four RBI, as he went 2-for-3 at the plate. Junior first baseman Tucker Hensley, sophomore center fielder Michael Robertson and sophomore second baseman Ty Webster each recorded two hits in the game. Sophomore Dylan Weatherly (0-6) suffered the loss on the mound, as he pitched into the second inning but allowed 10 runs (eight earned) on six hits and four walks.
The Generals will return to action on Sunday when they host Ferrum in an ODAC doubleheader beginning at 12:00 pm.
